Noise - - Sound - - ?

    Good Morning again Guys and Ladies,

     Always ready and willing to give you guys a smile .   Most of you guys know I'm going to "build" my own and first PC.    Here's another one of " THOSE "  most basic  of  questions that will cause some to smile  [ I Hope ]  ;D

     How does the  PC  make sound ,  other than the squeaks , groans , rattles , whirring and other mechanical   sounds/noise that I get from my present  PC.?       [ The banging and clunking is caused by me ]  ;D  

      Is there a "sound  card" already included somewhere or do I get one and if so  - - -  Which one  and where does it go  ?

There is already sound built into the mainboard, it's good quality sound but if you don't like it you can buy a sound card later any time. I think you'll find it's quite good, depends on your ear of course.

     Hey Congo,   Thanks much.    I do have speakers and headphones.                 If at a later time ,   Iget a  "sound card" ,      Where would it go  ?   caveman

It would go on your motherboard much like the graphics card.

Quite frankly, I've never found the need to buy a sound card on quality alone.  Your standard motherboard provided AC'97 is more than sufficient.  Unless you need super advanced setting and EAX, AC'97 should be sufficient.

I've had to purchase a cheap PCI sound card in the past to get the D-Socket on the card necessary to plug in older type joysticks which have a D-Plug on the end of the cable...

...also to be able to use the D-Socket MIDI function for plugging-in musical instruments.

(Some Mother boards incorporate header pins to allow a ribbon extension cable and D-Socket to achieve the same function).

    Hey Paul,      Thought maby you were on vacation or something - - - haven't heard from you in a while.   Hope all is well with you.

    Hey Guys    Good morning to you all ,     wishing you all a nice day.

    I know that was sorta like a dumb type question,  as the motherboard clearly shows  that "AUDIO" is installed.     My thoughts were perhaps  "THAT"  audio was only for the sounds made on start-up  or for warnings,  etc.    

    Thanks for bearing with me as I seem to ask some of the most basic questions that perhaps others just take for granted.       Until  I  got into  "THIS" forum, - - - all I've learned about the internal workings of a PC came from all the books I could find , read and study.     Would you be surprized at how much is NOT in those books.  ???     You guys sure could re-write some of them books  because so much of what I've learned in this forum   - - just isn't there. [ I know for sure as I've searched very hard ].
