Hey Guys,    I think I'm understanding all this.     The "upgrade" in Wal-mart states it has  " SP2 " .    The recovery disk I have states the following :  Operating System,   Windows XP-Home Edition.   Version 1.1.

Perhaps I should just buy the upgrade and give it a try.  ???

A little bit turned around.         ;D   caveman

Basically if you use the one you have now, you will spend 2 houres downloading and installing all service packs, and upgrades. If you buy the one at walmart you will only spend one houre.

No..

In your case.. an OEM copy is fine.. You won't be buying another computer before Vista comes out so you won't need the full retail..

I don't think the recovery disks will work anyway, it's just a HDD image of an outdated pre-built and contains all the drivers and rubbish under the sun for an old rig, not a promising prospect. The install program will most likely spit it out when it detects the wrong mainboard, if the program is any good.
