Thinking about a new mouse.

Postby ctjoyce » Sat Apr 01, 2006 2:42 pm

Well its been almost a year since I have had this aspire mouse, and due to the amount it has been banged up traveling to LAN parties I need to get a new one (not to mention it is very small). So I've been lookin around for good gameing mice, and came across the Logitech MX518. It has all the things I want. Less than $40, USB, Optical, Wired, 4+ buttons, scroll wheel, and fits well in a larger hand (I used to have a Microsoft M5000 wireless mouse, and really liked how that fit into my hand). But I want your input. Do you like it, are there other ones I should look at?

Cheers

My Friend has that mous and it is an absoulute treat for battlefield 2
Btw i would go for a wired mouse because carrying battries round is a bugger and they can die quite easily unless they are the expensive ones $100+ :P

Well carrying batts around isnt my concern, its the lag the wireless mouses get dureing gameing (esp when my sensativity is so high). Anyway how is the scroll wheel? does it kind of click as it scrools or is it more of a smooth kind of roll? I'm only wondering as the smooth roll is very dificult to change weapons with, but if its a treat in BF2 then at should suit me quite well in that, CSS, and UT2K4

I use the Logitec G5 laser mouse.

It's a UK site ....... but I'm sure it will be available in the US.

Hmm...may have to look into that G5, though I don't like the absense of a forward button.

@Fighting_Falcon522: I tried a Copperhead last weekend at a LAN party and hated it, too flat. I like to have my hand arched or cupped, so thats why I looked twards the logitechs

Well I'm off to Best Buy to get a feel for them, should have a new mouse by the end of the month (thank god).

I have tried many a mice since I built this new computer, I was going for the gaming aspect.
Read the reviews and went to the stores to get some "hands on" use (this is needed, you cant buy a mouse or keyboard by recommendations).

I finally settled on the MX510, great mouse great feeling and plenty of buttons to customize, the downfall? The cord.

I can not stand a mouse cord, it impedes performance more than response time or feel.

That along with the mass of cords everywhere, I got a octopus coming out of my pc.

I went out and bought the Logitec S510 cordless keyboard and mouse combo this weekend. A tad expensive but after the "hands-on" testing I love the way the keyboard feels, the mouse on the other hand isnt the most comfortable Logitec I ever had. So I figured when I game I can just plug in the MX510 and use the cordless for regular useage.

Now here is the surprise, I figured the best test was to do some gaming to see what the real difference between cord and no cord was. Starting up CoD2 I was shocked that the cordless mouse had a better and smoother response than the MX510!! That on top of not once having the cord catch on something on top or bellow the desk was a plus, I can also shoot people as I lay in bed! I found that the mouse and keyboard work well upto about 7 feet away from the reciver (this distance does impede shooting accuracy even with a scope LOL )

So I really can't figure out why cordless and gaming get a bad rap, of course I am going out on a limb and will assume as the batteries get weaker so will the response time, in that case I will just plug in my MX510.

In my experiance the Logitech brand is the best hands down

Well chaps, I've got a new Logitech MX518 on my desk now (local hardware store had them on sale for only $30 so couldn't pass that up). Its freakin amazing, 1600 DPI is makeing a huge difference in my gameing over my current 600 Aspire mouse. Plus all the buttons are making ingame music switching, and web browsing absolutely a joy to live with.

However I must stop all of this, as I saw the Logitech G15 gameing keyboard today, and all I have to say is DROOL!!!!! Unfortunately I only had the $40 for the mouse, so I couldn't afford the $65 price tag for the thing, however it has moved to the top of my to buy list. After using their demo one, I am hooked.

Nice one and a great price!

And the added buttons are great, I also like how they are placed within easy reach but not "in the way" casuing accidental button pushing.

Now they make one that is cordless I will be buying another ;)

Indeed. I know that my next mouse will probibly be the G7. Such a beautiful wireless mouse. And the thing that I really like about these logitechs is that I have pretty large hands, and even with them they are comfortable in my palm, and everything is withen a comfortable reach.

Mabe but I like to dream. Esp when my birthday is in two days, and my father is getting me ithor a 7800GT or a iPod Video 30GB. However knowing him I'm most likely to get the GPU. I love my current X800XL, but I'm not attached to it, esp when there could be such a beautiful card in its place.
