Scanner vs cords

    Good morning Guys and Ladies,    It's always nice to get on these forums as there are so many ways this  "sim" world can be improved upon.

     As a  "caveman" and being able to cut through the "mud" and see a "better way" as many of you do ,  - - -  I'm somewhat surprised that  "Microsoft" or an enterprising person or small group of persons hasn't started up a company to take care of some of these problems.

      An example is :     A "SCANNER" that would get rid of ALL the wires from the  PC  case/monitor/keyboard/mouse/ joystick/ speakers/ lights /etc, etc ,etc  .

     The only thing that would hold me or someone else back would be the money and/or the patend pend info /  resorces.

     Just thought I'd drop one of my thoughts on you  "guys".

     Fiber optics could also be used inside the PC in place of cables/wires printed circuit boards , even power spikes would be a thing of the past, etc.   These items I just mentioned would  Speed up everything  and carry more signals than could be imagined   .     Perhaps a single plug-in wire for power and the rest  are "BEAMS" of one sort or another.  

     If these things are really needed in the future - - - THEY  will be made if the demand is high enough.        Afterall - - - it seems  like someone did learn to fly    ;D

I don't think you'll ever see fiber-optics replacing wiring within a component. Fiber optics are great for data transmission as "light" is an incredibly high-frequency carrier (huge bandwidth). But it's only pratical where distance is a problem. You need modulating/de-modulating hardware at both ends of the transmission to turn the signal back into something electronic. Unless they come out with semi-light-conductors, light capacitors, resistors and methods to store data on photon impregnated wafers on a near molecular level, the mod/de-mod hardware would be bulky and expensive.

and you would still need electrical wires from each mod/demod (well modem ) to transmit the signals. Brett is right in the fact that Fiber is useful, ex: the USA-UK transmit, but not from my room to the router. fiber cant be bent, or the signal will be screwed up.

Yeah.. bending (after the fact) fiber cabels is like denting a wave-guide..  It wreaks havoc at high frequencies..

     Hey Dave,    Good Morning - - -  Just thought I'd check back on this  "grey matter" post.       Nice going.  Checked  out "bluetooth".     How about Verizon DSL  also.   A multi  M/B dollar breakthrough that was  " IN-DEMAND"   and now it is  ! !  And all  WE have coming into our house is a lil'cable to take advantage of it.     Tech never stands still  -  -  if we can  "think it" - - -  someone  - - - someday will make  it .    Keep the  " thoughts" working,  don't be shy,   someone may read it and add another piece to a puzzle that's being worked on.

     Good "thoughts" are always worth the effort.      caveman
