Yes I know the requirements, however most of the programs that are comeing out for Vista are going to take advantage of Dual core processers, larger amounts of RAM, and 64bit CPU archatexture. So yes you will be able to boot Vista without Glass, however will you be able to run some of the newer softwares?

C'mon guys the regular internet user isnt going to really need to upgrade, however as soon as you want to play any games your going to need what would be a "high end" XP system (3.0Ghz intel or 2.2Ghz AMD, 1GB RAM, PCI-E or AGP DX9 GPU). So let us think for one moment, if I cant use all the features of the new OS why would I buy it. If I only have a 1.8Ghz Celeron w/ 512mb of RAM and onboard GPU, Im not going to be able to run Aero or Glass. I'm also going to get slow boot and response times. Anything over basic tasks (Music, Internet, Word etc) are going to over task my system. So I say to myself " I have a copy of XP that runs fine, if not decently fast, and this new windows barely runs on my sstem so why upgrade?"

I think that Vista isnt really going to switch over for the home user for the first year and a half until the prices of new hardware comes back to where the end user can afford them. And looking at all the hype around vista, its just a MS ploy to help intel and AMD sell their 64Bit chips, and nVidia / ATi to sell their new DX10 cards. Fortunately their is going to be a huge tech jump in the market, however its for the wrong reasons. The only person this is going to benifit is someone who dosn't plan to upgrade to vista, but wishes to upgrade their old steam powered dell 2000.

Cheers

CJ I'd like to point out I ran vista on Aero Glass with everything turned on, with an XP-M 2600, 1gb Kingston Value Ram, SIS 741 chipset, and a 6600 vanillia, and it wasn't slow at all. So please, don't tell people what it needs

Thanks for that info Dave, very informative. We are privaledged to have such expertise here in our forums.

I wouldn't call him an expert, I'd call him an MS employee, honestly talk to the real beta testers, not the little man behind his desk reading white papers all day.

fish i offically am calling you a moron. I dont care how long you have been playing with vista, I am part of the largerst vista community on the planet, and we have a somewhat better uderstanding than you apperntly. I would like to ask you to politly shut your trap, as you are either incompetent, stupid, or a liar. It is also possible you are a combination of all. As for your games not working, umm you really are dumb ent ya, Vista DX10 includeds a software layer for DX7-9 emulation, so no offense please stop giving advice on vista, as it seems to me you work for MS instead of an actual vista user. Though feel free to head over to http://winvistasecrets.com and tell everyone over there, they are unable to run vista well. Also tomorrow I will take some screenshots of my system with vista. But please save me from your stupidity, first talk to people that play with vista 24/7 and then you might understand it a little more. I have had copies of vista sense 2003 with the 3000 builds so I do belive my experince far out weighs yours.

too often I have found people get in trouble because they tend to open their mouth (or type) before they think.

If I was pushing Bill Gates product and his pal I would be posting things like you are which tell people to blindly jump into a new operating system without considering both the positive and negative aspects of such a decision.

up his bum?
yall?

How old are you??

It would seem I was grossly wrong in the education department... the term "uneducated" indicates someone who is not knowing, not un-schooled, however from your use of language it is obvious high school was difficult for you to complete, if you did. Do you live in a trailer park?

Never mind.... I do not wish to know

Well, if you had any SENSE, you would not be saying the things that you are....

If you meant you have been using Vista SINCE 2003... well, that is amazing and I will not get into why.

EDIT: Your private message was just as ignorant as your posts in public except you included the a colorful metaphor I was suprised you know how to spell.

I'm going to point out, that those white papers are wrong, and that I am a vista tester, and so are a great many others that I talk to. Go to winvistasecrets.com and then look for shellofinsanity thats me. Do not presume that because I ont have a degree I am uneducated, I could care less if your a dr, you people walk around with your nose in the air, and think your somewhat better, when its ppl like me that seem to do the real work, hmm go figure that. The largest beta tester community is not even supposed to be according to MS, and we have our own site, and guess what MS reads it, and we havnt been closed. So I would politly ask you to shut your mouth, your degrees have blinded you to the truth. I play with computers all damn day, its what I do, and why I may not have a degree I do have my certifcations and am just as qualifed to work on computers as you are, maybe more seeing how you work with software, and i work with hardware/software. I hope some little uneducated kid hacks your sorry aXX.

Yes, you may indeed be qualified to WORK on computers, I design what you work on. Just like you are probably qualified to dig a ditch which an engineer would design. That is not a jab at computer technicians as I highly respect their responsibilities and accomplishments in the field. It was directed at you personally because if I was a tech I would not want you speaking for me or representing my field. I would be embarrassed to have you in the same room as me using that mouth of yours.

shellofinsanity? I would say you are a good judge of your own character with selecting that screen name.

I am finished with this person.

People in this forum can decide what is best when it comes to obtaining VISTA for themselves. My recommendation is to purchase hardware in preparation for VISTA after a wait for the hardware manufactures and MS to fix the bugs so your experience with the product is what you would expect from spending hard earned money.... pleasant and fun.

So... who should people listen to?

Someone who had you totally pegged without knowing you personally and reading a few posts? Or someone who speaks without consideration and in ignorance who is condescending and inconsiderate of other opinions?

I am sure the people in this forum are intelligent enough to see the difference.

Now this is not being nasty son; my advice to you is to carefully consider what it is you are saying before saying it. You will get more respect from saying nothing unless you are 100% sure of your facts than speaking with an egotistical chip on your shoulder which includes disgusting, condescending overtones.

If that is not possible for you, consider the fact that if you state your opinion without being egotistical or insulting to the group, even if it is not accurate, you opinion and contribution will be respected.

Well keeping this war going on much longer you might both end up banned, then again who cares? I Personally dont think you'll need super computers for Vista it wouldnt be a market trend if it tried.... Most computers you buy in a store can barely run The current stuff, to jump that far in that short of a time span.... Its practicly impossible, I think candle is right on this one.... It may not be completely optimized or what not, but who the heck cares now? Vista is 7-8 months away... betas are always going to be buggy, Bah... you guys are a bit crazy, Cheers, Gunny

PS: When I bought XP in October of 2001 on an emachines, it had the min specs and ran fine and dandy, well for burning CDs and running lower end games.... Based on that expierence I am sure the technology around WHEN Vista was first built is what the minimum should be, If it isnt around to use and build it, how can you base it on it? Think logically and outside of the box....... You'll get my meaning eventually, I have never used Vista so I wouldnt know what its like, but Thinking the way I am does give me a good idea on what type of specs a certain program will need, if you dont have it, you cant base upon it!

I do not like being called stupid, and I have more experince with vista than you do. If these people listen to you on hardware advice it is there own fault, but I have run vista, and it is more stable than XP. Not to mention the website I keep telling everyone about, we can show you how to get past all those new features MS has installed. Aslo my name on that forum has a meaning, shellofinsanity represents the inner barbraism of man, incased in the shell we show to society.
