you woulden't be using a modifyied env map would you?

I had another one before but I changed it back because I didn't see a noticable differense.
Atleast I think I changed it back..., you got me wondering...
And I'm afraid I haven't got the backup left in the computer.

If you'd like to post that file I'd appreciate it.

Can a modified envmap make the the shimmers worse?

That shimmering or 'Quiver' Happens no matter what in FS.... I've had it since the day I got FS back in the summer of 04..... and that was on my MX 440, and now, same thing on the 6200, so, its not really a problem that your having, as long as your not having a lot of graphical glitching, you'll be fine, so go fly! and have fun... Cheers, Gunny

OK.

I'll experiment a little bit more with the AF setting to see what setting makes the sim work with the least of stutters, and I guess I have to except the fact that I'm probably not going to be able to have the mip mapping at 8 without these shimmers.

But I'm afraid I will not be satisfied with that...

Thanks for your help anyway!

Im having trouble deciding what exactly you mean by "shimmers" (possible to post a screenshot? ) so I went in to try and duplicate it in FS9.

How I got something that i would call shimmering was by adjusting the "mip map quaility" setting from within the sim itself, i find that set at 3 or 4 "shimmering is gone, set  anywhere else some flickering ground and buildings or even grainy scenery appearance, may need to check inside the sim for settings there ;)
Alos check to see that you have AA disabled from within FS9

I belive we have found your problem then or part of it ;)

4 is about the best I can go with the 7800 before quaility degrades. anything higher or lower starts it to shimmer or get grainy in appearance.

In the sim try various combinations of mip map values and bi and tri filtering, making notes of each combonation.
In your video card settings stick with your "quaility"  settings for now while experimenting with different combinations.

If after testing some variations nothing improves it may be time to head into the FS9 config file.

Let me ask if you have any installed scenery, be it payware or freeware?

If not may I suggest you look into RealityPack 1.2 scenery enhancement (freeware) it adds much to the scenery and makes it more realistic. Can be found at Avsim (maybe even here? )
Not sure if this will help you at all but may offer some improvements.

Bilinear och trilinear filtering doesn't make any differense.
Anything higher than 3 on mip mapping makes it shimmer.

And my stutterproblem remains, I thought turning Anisotropic filtering off or checking application controlled made a differense but I guess that was just wishfull thinking. The stutters remain.
I just tried setting every setting down to minimum just to see if it runs smooth then and actually I get small stutters now and then even then.
But then I have no shimmering

I mentioned the enviroment map because I installed a new one and that made my sim stutter.  Not actual bad fps just the sim jumped and the scenary at times jumped, very hard to discribe but it made flying very unenjoyable.

serch for: soft_envmap.zip
on: http://www.avsim.com/

in that zip file there is a modifyed ENV map and the defualt one.  Simply copy the defult env map into your texture folder.

I woulden't recomend the modifyed env map in there as I noticed very little visual differance and it made my sim stutter.

Well, I'm sorry to say but that doesn't work for me.
What driver version are you using?
