intel mobo 915 or 945

Postby michaelmichael » Sun Feb 05, 2006 9:22 am

i am interested in a mobo upgrade to either a 915 or 945 intel board.

can any of you guys give an informed analysis re the above.

i am not looking for a dual core board  but 64 bit and the pci express and agp option would be a requirement.

also dependability is a strong requirement  are these board clockable??

thanks for the info

Well your gonna want a PCI Express board, dont even bother with AGP.

Secondly the 945 chipset supports duel cores, so I think your thinking of duel processer boards ;) Really its all about what processer your putting in it. If its a 6XX or 5XX prescott then go for the 915 board, but a Pentium D will require the 945 chipset.

Thirdly all aftermarket boards can overclock better than others. If your gonna do some extreem stuff (like I do) the DFI LanParty boards are the only way to go. However if your just doing slight 200~300Mhz clocks you should look at Gigabyte or ASUS.

ASUS > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131538

Gigabyte (it only got a 3 cus people dont like the RAID on it. But then again who RAIDs IDE useing the mobo anyway> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128293

Any particular reason you would want an over-expensive, hot running and inferior intel system?

Cus people do other things than game congo ;) I bought intel, as I DJ. So I needed a really powerful number cruncher that could also do pretty well in games. But aslong as you cool an intel right they can do magical things. Heck I'm running a 550 Prescott @ 3.9Ghz at only 32C Idle, and 48C load.
