Enough power?

Postby GeForce » Tue Jan 03, 2006 4:45 pm

Hi guys... just wanted to fire a question at you:

I've currently got a 300W PSU. Do you reckon that is enough for the following system? The reason I ask is that occasionally the whole machine will lock up, completely. No keyboard, no mouse, all the USB hubs die, etc. The only was to get it back to hit the Reset button the front of the CPU.

Of the four USB ports on the back two of them go to hubs. Both hubs are externally powered (ie. don't use power from the system CPU). The remaining two ports are used for the USB modem and the keyboard.

Any ideas much appreciated ;)

Many times when a system it totally deprived of power it will do that or reboot or shutdown. I would guess a 300 watter would handle that system but it may be on its way out.

I would go for a 350W or more. The more power the more stable your overclocks ;)

OK thanks both of you - I'll consider a new PSU then 8) Any other ideas what might be causing the lockups?

Hmm I don't really. And this happens sometimes a few minutes after I turn it on.

Here is a site. Just input everything and it tells you how many watts you need.
