The fastest way to get frames!? - suggestions!

Postby Jimbo » Tue Dec 27, 2005 11:08 am

Well look at my system below in my sig:

1) The 768mb is 2 speeds of ram 266 & 333 (mhz) i dunno how!
The 266mhz is the 256mb module & 333mhz is the 512 module.
Now im going to order another EXACT same 512 333mhz module and chuck the 266mhz(256mb).
Will this give me an increase in frames at ALL?
When i use FSauto start when it defrags the RAM, it only says i have around 520mb available AFTER defrag.
So If i get this i'll be having 1 gig of the same ram. would this improve frames any?

2) Im looking to upgrade my graphics card. Im looking for a decent one around

RAM reduces/gets rid of stutters and allow things to load faster.  It does not effect the fps too much but 1gb definetly helps! ;)

My card is in about your range or slightly over and it is a very good card and gives according to Toms Card FPS chart thingy a consistent 22. FPS. I agree with that anyway. It was double that of my Geforce FX5200 I had and I was very pleased with it.  8)

Thats 'cos its a PCI-Express card, not AGP which all of those cards are.  ;)

If you read the link that picture came from ( http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/10/04/ ... age11.html ) you'll see its an old test, based on the older AGP cards.

Bang for buck, buy one of these, if your stuck with AGP guys. ;)

Or if you want to spend a bit more for this very nice card:
http://www.ebuyer.co.uk/customer/produc ... _uid=85800

The 6600GT will get better frames than the 9800xt, not sure where the 6600 will go on the chart though, maybe on par with the 9800xt?

The thing i would like to know is, if i was to upgrade my graphics card from a Geforce FX5200 to a 6600GT, and with my current processor (2200+ AMD athlon XP 266mhz FSB i THINK), would i loose perfermance and speed from my new card because my processor isn't very good?
Ive heard if you have a low end processor, but a decent graphics card, the processor may bottleneck the graphics card..?

I would buy 6600gt AGP version, I belive they make em. You may have a bottleneck with your cpu, it wont take away from esxisting performance but you will be loosing some too, get me? I would not upgrade cpu unless you get a good steal. Save your money for AMDs new socket AM2.
