Intel Mobo D845WN

I have an intel Mobo D845WN with a geforce mx4000.

I noticed that the AGP is only X4. is this a function of the Mobo or the video card? The card is a geforce4 mx4000.128megs. are there any O/C capabilities with these two dinosauers. My PC is an OEM one and the bios do not give me any O/c functions.

any help here would be appriciated

The card is capabable of 8x AGP, but the motherboard can only do 4x -- so it has to run at the lower rate.  Not a big deal since there is little to no performance difference between 4x/8x.

An OEM machine will be very difficult to impossible to overclock. They don't provide the necessary BIOS functions, as you know. There are some software apps that allow you to change the FSB within windows, but I do not like them and don't recommend to do it that way.

For the video card, you can overclock it with a variety of tools, such as CoolBits,  but don't expect it to work miracles.

The 845 chipset is overclockable, and "soft-clocking" could possibly be done if you have no bios options.

The main drawback you have is that GF2 MX400 video card you have installed. I would keep an eye out for a GF4 TI4200/4400/4600 card, they are pretty good and should be found cheap second hand.

The new card will do much more than any overclocking you attempt. Overclocking that system at present is a waste of time with the hardware fitted.

If your bios doesn't provide overclocking options for your mainboard, it's possible that some third party software will set the clockrates.

Video cards are also clockable thru some driver settings and utils such as coolbits.

I do not recommend either of the above unless you have a good idea of what you are doing.

Trying to overclock an mx video card for FS9 is a dubious exercise.

You really need another video card, there are some terrific ones out there for your machine, many will be a huge improvement, starting at the bottom end, as I listed above, you can work your way towards more modern cards until you hit your budget limit.

Get rid of that MX card - My best advice.

Radeon 9800pro/9800XT
GF 6600GT
Radeon X800GT
GF 6800LE
Many more expensive and more modern cards

Beware of intermittent variations on the listed cards above.

Softclocking is adjusting clock rates by use of software, I tried to explain that above.

As far as I'm aware, 8x AGP cards are backwards compatible to 4x, but an 8x AGP card will only use 4x speed on a mainboard that doesn't support 8x
AGP speed.

There is also an older type AGP slot, but it has a different key, so the wrong voltage card can't be put into it. (and vice versa)

Have currently installed pc133 sdram. Can my mobo take a faster ram such as pc2700ddr or pc3200 ddr400? both of these are a84 pin ram sticks

No, they will not work. The pin number and cutout positions are different, so you cannot put 184 pin DDR RAM into 168 pin SDRAM  slots, even with a hammer.
