CD burner problems...quite urgent

I have to get 5 copies of a cd done by tomorrow...well my burner decided to not work today.  Everything is installed....it worked just fine the other day.  Now i set up the cd but as soon as i put in a blank disk everything freezes.  Ive tried both my Nero and Roxio burning programs and both do the same thing.  Ive uninstalled and reinstalled....nothing works.  All i know is after 3 hours of fighting with it im 2 seconds away from giving it the buckshot solute

What could be causing this and how do i fix it...search engines have proven useless.  Cant even put in a normal cd.  Its a Digital Research Tech external USB 2.0 burner...40x12x48

A quik search brought me to a drivers page.... Did you install the lastest ones? http://www.dr-tech.com/drivers/drdvdrw24eu1-drivers.asp I've never heard of burners having drivers though, the freeze is normal, at least for any computer I've had, and it usually recovers Quikly, I'll look and see if I can find a solution for you  ;D Cheers, Gunny

EDIT: you did try music cds and Games right? (you say you tried normal cds) if it freezes, sounds like a system problem Go to start,  control panel, system (this is under classic mode in the control panel) hardware, device manager, DVD/CD-rom Drives, if its yellow then that could be a prob, if no errors are shown I dont think theres much more I can say... Those were the same ones installed unfortunatly....Dosnt matter what brand the cd is...the freeze is perminit.  Not responding and a couple times had to accualy turn off the computer.  so other then drivers

Edit: you could do what I've done for as long as I can remember, play around with it..... see if you can come up with something! then post the results I dunno, I'm as cluess as it gets now!

CD burners are dirt cheap, I would seriously consider a replacement for your current drive.

Ended up getting them done at my aunts at nearly 3 AM.  Still isnt working.  No one seems to know what the problem is.  Its an external and i hooked it up to my old IBM to find it works fine...so its something with this computer.  Unfortunatly i have no way of transfering data to the old one since there is no ethernet connection to it.  No cables to link the 2 and transfering 600+ megs via the old dial-up account would take a year.  768K connection is nice but useless for the old one :-/

So anyone ever comes up with an idea ide be glad to try it.  

This cd burner wasnt dirt cheap when i bought it.  $80 about 4 years ago...not heavily used and like i said...it worked fine on the old IBM so it has to be something with this computer  After all the problems weve had I'm not surprised this happened.  Its only on its 4th hardrive :-/  I really dont want to shell out money for an internal one, but its tempting.

I did not realize you had an external drive when I said they were dirt cheap.

The internal burners are very reasonably priced today and seen to work quite well.
