FS9 Running from ext HD

This may be a simple one to answer.

My old PC was running out of space on the HD so I transfered a lot of files including my FS9 directory to a 120 GB external USB HD. While this whole thing is probably mute since I'm loading the sim and all files back onto my new system that has a roomy 250 GBs. I wanted to know if the sim's performance would be affected running from an external drive. I'm thinking not since the files being used to run the sim at any moment are loaded in ram and the only thing needed from the FS9 files is if I switch a/c or location.

On the other hand, the sims performance of late has been pretty low. Even with a crappy slow system I was always able to have at least 50% AI traffic and a decent amount of scenery with only a slight bit of stutter. Lately though, even with everything set to nearly 0% if I have 5 or 10% AI I have to run the sim in 16 bit.

Could the problem be FS9 running from an external HD or is my mystery graphics robber attributable some  other source?

Thanks in advance

Keni

I'm pretty sure the game accesses the hard disk more than you believe, for scenery and texture loads at least.

However, I don't think that would slow the game other than at those load times.
