Hows this slight overclock look?...

Postby Jimbo » Tue Nov 08, 2005 2:39 pm

Tell me how you think this looks

Image

My default settings for my FX 5200 128MB card are to the right on the screen shot ( 250 core , 200 memory)

Ive overclocked a little to (275 core, and 432 memory)

Will this small increase do ANYTHING big on heat etc?
And am i ok to overclock a little further?

Am i likely to notice the overclocking>

Many thanks for all your help..... jus dont want the house on fire..>! LOL ;D

James ;)

From what I understand from previous posts on this subject, your settings there are 2D settings which only affect the Desktop and it's programs.
The flight sim and similar games use 3D settings automatically in the game...

You can only observe the 3D settings while the game is running...(run the game in a Window)...and observe the CPU loading...

Fozzer is right, you need to select 3D from the drop down menu instead of 2D, put the 2D setting back to default.

The 5200 is a poor card. It won't perform no matter how much you overclock it.

A 10% overclock is about standard and usually perfectly safe for your card. That would give you 275/440. It can be difficult to get more out of it without changes to the cooling method as you'll start getting artifacting in games from the heat or random blue screens. I prefer to not run the GPU more than 10% over stock speed if I overclock at all (which I don't bother anymore), just for the sake of avoiding frustration. If you really must have more performance, then it's time to look for a better card.

You may get 1-3 fps from that overclock, depending on the game and the rest of your system. Overclocking helps a lot to get higher benchmark scores, but, you generally don't notice dramatic benefits in your games.

Do, however, make sure you make the clock changes in the 3D display. ;)

The 5200's don't overclock very well.  I suspect you will get artifacts with any demanding 3D apps, if you overclock it.  ;)
