DVD drive won't read!!!

Postby Moach » Wed Jun 29, 2005 10:31 pm

hi all...

i just bought myself a new game and it came in DVD-R format
so i stuck it in my DVD drive and bam! nothing happened... :P
the DVD is not reading the disk at all... it tries for quite some time but it never finds the disk
i have this old liteon ltd122 DVD-ROM so i first thought, hmm maybe this thing is too old and won't play DVD-Rs, but i read somewhere that is should... so i don't what to think
i'm trying to clean it, but it doesn't seems to help at all...

i am desperate here... i've been waiting for this game for 6 months now and when i finally get it, i can't even open it :'(

does anyone have any idea of what i can do?

i tried getting new drivers for it but the driver file seems to only run in DOS.... the command prompt in winXP doesn't cut it, so it didn't work

if anyone knows anything useful, please help

Have you Tried Another DVD of any kind? another movie or game? Sounds too me like the disk is the problem, play around with other DVD or DVD-Rs... I never had this problem with DVD, But a CD-rom and it was the disk, Hope this helps, Cheers, Gunny

i was hoping it wouldn't be the disk, since i bought it on the net and it took 2 days to deliver... this would mean 2 more days of waiting

but i guess it's better than replacing the whole DVD unit eh? ::)

i don't have any other DVD-Rs around here, so i can't really tell if there's a problem with this disk in particular, or the DVD unit simply doesn't like homemade DVDs

i know that commercial DVDs have worked before... but i have reinstalled Windows a few times since then....

let's hope it's just this one disk then ::)

i already told the guy who sold it to me to send me another copy, let's see what happens now

wait, a homedisk? May I ask what the game is and what you mean by homedisk? Because certain encryptions for games will not allow coppying, or if its home made, will only work with certain software types upon a computer, I've had this issue with DVD players (my old Dolby 5.1 wich is now my parents) and CDs.... hmmm any more info on the disk and I'll help you to the best of my knowledge, *Jumps back and covers ears* Damn, big bang of thunder, could wake the dead..... just got scared senseless, anyways, Cheers, Gunny

Was your new game GTR, SHIII, or a Ubisoft title?

It's very doubtful a game, or anything for that matter, will work on your old DVD if it's burnt by a new DVD burner. I regularly replace my DVD burner for this very reason. They just don't seem to be compatible for some reason. As soon as I get a new burner, away I go with no probs.

That's not saying the disk isn't stuffed though.
