Don't Know What's Wrong...

Postby Hai Perso Coyone? » Sat Sep 17, 2005 6:25 am

Everytime I run any game with intense graphics like NBA Live 2005 or FS9, my monitor just goes blank after a little while. My machine stay's on, but my monitor just goes blank. Nothing can make the screen come back on except manually restarting. See my system spec's below in my Sig...I don't know what's wrong...it just goes black and my monitor says "Entering Sleep Mode".....What's going on?? My video card is brand new and I only got it about 3 months ago. The only thing that is worrying me is the temperature...it usually stays around at 88 Degrees Celcius....but that's partly because it's damn hot here. The weather is thankfully changing now and it's becoming cooler....maybe that's it? Or my power supply....I am not sure which it is....could it be both...or has my card finally died? Keep in mind that my comp stays on 24/7....I am stopping that habit now because my computer is over a year old now...
Thanks in advance for Help!!!

Well if there is a setting to automatically reset your gpu when it overheats/ malfunctions than thats your problem. I know my card does that every once in a while when I O/C it then play FS9 for houres.  Hope I helped

Cheers

Your Problem is heat. 80C is waaaaay to hot for anything. That should have been your first clue. The blackness is the GPU resetting itself because it gets too got to function, so needs a quick rest. My solutions

1. Actually turn off your computer every once and awhile
2. Get it breathing better (higher CFM fans, cable tidying etc)
3. Get a new heatsink on your VGA (Zalman anyone ;) )

Another thing you should do is check to see if there is any thermal paste actually on the GPU, because unless youve got a massive overclock on stock cooling, there should be no reason for your card to be that hot.

Cheers

Run the PC with the side cover off and sit a small fan blowing across the insides to check if it's actually an overheat problem. Your temps are definitely high on the card, at least that will lower the temps so you can see if thats actually the problem.
