Dead Trackball?

Yesterday my Logitech trackball decided it would no longer allow me to click on anything. Ball and scroll wheel work fine; just no l/r click function. Weird. It's a USB type, but I'm using an adaptor for the mouse port... don't think I ever even loaded drivers for it, and it's been fine for about a year.
Anybody had similar problems? Is this thing shot, or...??

First thing to try is taking off the mouse port adapter and shoving it into a USB port. It will then run on a different set of drivers etc (usb ones).

If that doesn't work try it on another computer.

If that doesn't work, you've got a nice new paperweight

LOL... looks like I will soon have a new paperweight. I think it's mechanical. Seems that if I just hold the button down for a millisecond longer and sort of massage it, it works fine...wait a sec; no. it's not that- I have to tap the forward-most part of the button. There it goes...plastic fatigue...

Now it's definitely dead...
The damn thing just got too annoying to use, so in a fit of pique I ripped it out of its port and whipped it against the floor. Very liberating. I even picked up the ball after it popped out of its socket and hurled it against the wall for good measure (no harm done; the wall in question is clad in thick tongue-and-groove wood planking).
Then after I calmed down I rummaged around and found a slick little Radio Shack mouse with a scroll wheel that an old roomie had left behind... ahhh.... scroll wheel good...
I'll probably get another trackball this weekend; maybe I'll spend a little more money this time.

BTW, use the USB connection in the future.

Its much better anyway (being hot swappable and all). Plus, I've had nothing but trouble when it comes to USD-to-PS/2 adapters.

I still don't understand why high-end motherboards come with those lousy unreliable connectors. If you can afford an SLI mobo, you should also be able to afford $10 for a USD mouse and keyboard.

Yeah, I should- but the PS2 connector comes out much more easily when you want to yank it out and toss it!!
