Auto-run the CD ROM Drive when inserting a disk..?

Postby Fozzer » Sun Aug 14, 2005 2:34 am

Hi Lads...!
A little advice please... ;)...!

How do I get my CD Rom to auto-run and open the program automatically whenever I insert a CD into the drive....?
At the moment I have to "Open" the CD manually and try and locate the "Auto-Run" option amongst all the folders, icons, etc...:'(...!
(There doesn't appear to be an option in the CD-ROM properties to select auto-run)

I have the Creative Labs 1024 sound card inserted into my PCI slot, to give me sound, but there are no drivers available for it using Windows XP, (only Win '98SE).
...(the installation CD containing the programs, (including the Auto-Run option), will not work with Win XP)...!

When using  Win '98, the Creative Lab program put an Auto-Run icon in my task bar, which did the trick..!
...but this in not available now that I have the Creative sound card running in in Win XP...  :'(...!
BUGGAR... >:(...!

Any ideas, Lads...?
Maybe a down-loadable program to insert an Auto-Run Icon in my task bar which installs on Boot-Up...?

Many thanks for your venerable assistance... 8)...!
...a nice cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit waiting for the winning suggestion...:)...!
LOL...!

Paul... ;D...!

P.S. Windowx XP Pro. (Service pack 1).... ;)...!

Hi Paul,
the easiest way, to avoid going to the registry, if you do not have yet "TweakUI" part of Microsoft PowerToys, get here, only 500k.

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/software/xppowertoys

It has all sort of usefull twicks for windows.

For CD autorun click on the "paranoya" tab and tick it.

PS. did you try the Networking you showed interest?

Somewhere in the cfg or registry files I saw an autorun enable but that's for my 98SE. Sorry I'm not much help -- I don't have time to check out this one (its an XP) and I'm not back here until Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Mornin' Luke... ;D...!

I think you may have cracked it...
I already have TweakUI, but the "Paranoya" tab is non-existant... ::)...!
...anyway a browse to the My Computer > Autoplay > Autoplay Drive Types, in TweakUI, and clicking the auto-play boxes may do the trick, (providing it doesnt revert to "Default off" on re-boot)... :'(...LOL...!

I've been watching your problems with "Networking two computers" and I reckon it's easier to shout very loudly to the person operating the "other" computer... ;)... ;D...!

Cheers Luke...
Cup of tea on the way...and don't drop the biscuit crumbs all over the carpet... ;)...!
LOL...!

Paul.

P.S. I'm still wondering if there is a downloadable > installable program which does the same job....?
TweakUI doesn't always change the Windows directory "permantly", it often reverts back to to the default settings during the next re-boot... ;)...(as is the case with "Auto-Log-On" in Win XP).... >:(...!

Paul,

You have the very old Tuiqwi, get the new one 500k for XP, mine does not revert to defaults.

to change directory, the question mark at the top of tuiqwi says, to make it permanent relog.

At the end suceeded with networking 98 to xp, and it works fine.
Both PCs running, click the IE icon and within seconds hooks up to the XP tiscali 512 boadband, and concidering the 98 is old 500mhz cpu & 256mb ram.

The 98 also prints on the old dod matrix panasonic of XP

No need the wife to shout in my very deaf years now.

simple as it could be

Go to device manager
right click the cd/dvd player
Depending on the device there is the 'Auto insert notification' option somewhere, and that one should be on.

That only appears to automatically run "CD Audio/Video files", not automatically run CD "Program" files....( .exe install files, etc..)....  ::)...!

Cheers...!

Just use the autoupdate to download the drivers off their website. I hardly ever use installation CDs anymore since there's always a newer version available.

I agree, but its still nice to have autorun work, so any disc will auto-start up.
