Well, I'm not going to make the decision for you, but from what I've seen that monitor looks quite decent.  For comparision, I'll use my own monitor, the 152T (See here).  I love the 152T, in the two or three years I've had it, never had a problem with it.  The colors are vibrant, and even with a "horrible" 25ms response time, I have never noticed any ghosting at all.  The monitor you're thinking of buying is better than mine in almost every way, regarding specs.  It's bigger, has a higher contrast ratio and lower response time.  It's not quite as bright, but I seriously doubt this will be an issue.  Most of the people who have reviewed it on Amazon seem to think it's a good monitor as well.

The only thing I'd be a little wary about is the company who makes them.  I have never heard of this brand name, so, just in case, make sure you know the seller's refund policy.  If, you know, it comes with a different number of pieces than it should or something.   ;D

About future-proofing, I think you're pretty safe there.  I am not yet aware of any other ways to connect your monitor to the PC other than a DVI or D-sub cable, and this monitor supports both.

Don't worry about the "LG" brand... LG used to be Zenith. Probably a good monitor for the money...

Seeing as this has pretty much turned into an LCD vs CRT, I would like to point out another issue that nobody mentioned - eye strain.

After staring at a CRT monitor for a few hours, my eyes always get sore and tired.  LCD monitors, on the other hand, do not flicker, and are therefore MUCH easier on the eyes.  I don't think my eyes ever got tired because I was staring at an LCD for too long.  In my opinion, LCDs are worth it just for this alone.

Eye strain really isn't a problem as long as the refresh rate is very high, around 85 hz.
