Radeon 9250

Postby stevewilson » Wed Jul 20, 2005 10:03 pm

Thinking of getting a Radeon 9250 PCI graphics card with 256 mb on board.

Any comments, good or bad.

It's worse, far worse, than your current card. Don't fall for the megabyte myth. Performance is determined by clock speed/bandwidth rather than amount of memory. That has very little to do with it.

Wait a minute, PCI card? Is it going in your sig spec system? You don't have many options for PCI.

Weatherman, Sorry, I had not upgraded my spec in my sig. Unlike my other computer, This one doesn't have an AGP slot. The other two things that are about to be changed is to increase the ram to at least 1 gb, and the psu to a higher wattage.

So the 9250 isn't good. Ok I'll go for something else then. Any sugestions?

For PCI:

Geforce 5200. It will be a major improvement on integrated graphics by a lot, and it is cheap.
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Athlon64 3700+ San Diego (2200) @ 2750 MHz
1024MB PC3200 @ 500 MHz (Mushkin V2)
GeForce 6800GT OC (BFG)
(2) 80G SATA Seagates RAID0
(1) Maxtor 250Gb 16MB Cache ATA133

Asuming you have PCI get the Sapphire Radeon X300SE Hyper Memory $52.50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102528

Asuming you have AGP then get the Sapphire Radion 9600XT $89.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102510

Dosnt really matter what you get as long as it is atleast a 128-bit card. Anything less will be like having the intagraded graphics.

Ctjoyce,  I have standard PCI slots, so the express is out, plus I failed to mention that I really would like dual monitor ability. Does the Gforce 5200 have dual monitors?

I think the FX cards will do dual monitors. You can definately do it with 2 PCI cards. ;)

I'd go with the FX5200 or FX5700 PCI, if you can find one.

What's your zipcode? I'll give you a direct link to your temp thingy for your area.

You seem now to have a histroy of misquoting information. The x300 is a pci-express card, something his system would not support.

For future reference, In the x line of ati cards, only the x800 xt, xt pe and pro have AGP counterparts, the rest are pci-express.

For pci, get the 5200 or 5700 le over the radeon 9250 b/c the 9250 is a dx8 card while the 5200 and 5700 are dx9 cards.

5700 le:

5200:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145087

Both are PCI and are the best you can get for PCI.

It was 4:53 AM and I was writing short hand. I figured that it would be understood that I ment PCI-E X16

I recently had a Gforce 5200FX for my computer which has only a PCI slot. It was a good card until I fried it. Well worth the money. I had it set up on dual monitor's also so it should be what you need.

Thanks guys for all the responses.

Looks like I'll be going for the 5700 LE, the price is right and I will still be able to upgrade my ram to a ghz.

@Lintonam: How did you fry your card?

@ weather_man: here is my zip code, 93230. I found the site, but not sure how to put it in with my sig and have both.

If you want a clickable graphic to the current conditions on the weatherunderground website:

My sig clicks through to my personal weather station data. :)

The FX series Geforce are not DirectX9 cards, but I don't think there are any PCI cards that are DX9. Good choice on the 5700 PCI card, it will cream any integrated graphics.
