I'd get a 6600 gt. Its pretty cheap now and will offer a huge performence increase over your current video card.

I'd also upgrade your computer with another 512 mb stick of ram for a total of a gig of ram.

If your in the UK (or don't mind mail order! ) I'd go for the Leadtek 6800GT from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ ... _SALE.html

I would use BFG tech for nVidia cards. Also make sure that you get the correct card for your bord. You wouldnt want to waste money on a card that dosnt work on your board would you?

Also I would buy a very highpower heatsink for your P4 and overclock it by 25%, its not much, but you will notice it.

For the heatsink (asuming you have socket 478 or LGA775) $35.99 + $7 for a fan

For the 6600GT (assuming you have AGP) $216.00

Hope the upgrade goes well, and keep us posted.

Ok let me help you a bit:
Heatsink: Device usually made of copper and/or aluminum that is put on chips, mainly big producers of heat such as your CPU and video card. It absorbs heat in the metal and is taken away by a fan. Open your case, you will see a large contraption with a fan on it, thats it.
Overclocking is increasing your core clock: IE 200 Mhz to 250Mhz. I dont recomend you attempt this at your computing level.
The correct video card for your board can be 1 of 3 interfaces: AGP, PCI, and PCI-Express. Open your case you will see PCI slots they have things such as a network interface card, sound card, etc. An AGP slot is smaller than the PCI slot and slightly offset from the rest. A pci-e slot is the largest of them so if it is longer than a standard PCI slot it is probabbly PCIe. Sence you have an FX 5500 video card you most likely have AGP.  Search google for pics.
BFG Tech is a well known video card manufacturer. Known for its "real" lifetime warrantee, factory overclocked components.
AGP is Advanced Graphic Port, used exclusevly for video cards. Has more bandwith than PCI.
The socket reffers to the number of pins a cpu has. Socket 775 has 775 pins so a socket 478 will not fit/work.
Hope that helped a  bit.

If need to ask that, you shouldn't. Overclocking is risky, especially if you don't know what you are doing. You risk damaging your computer permanently.

for more on overclocking, see here:

If you have to ask questions like that I would highly recommend that you let a professional PC builder do the job for you....to your requirements...
...and give you a guarantee... ;D...!
