uninstalling nvidia video card drivers

Postby hsvfan » Thu Jul 07, 2005 4:19 am

Hi all
I have had a few problems with nvidia drivers on my computer so I downloaded Detonator Destroyer to remove all traces of the old drivers . When I went to run Detonator Destroyer in came up with GForce 2MX/MX 400 which is my old video card. My new card is a gforce fx 5200.  I downloaded driver cleaner pro, ran that and then checked to see the entry in detonator destroyer but it still comes up with GForce 2MX/MX 400 any suggestions on what the problem could be and a possible solution

Cheers

Hi Rhys... It may sound obvious but you have checked the Windows uninstall thing havent you? Every WHQL 6800 and TNT2 series driver I have had has always shown up, and been removed from there.

Uninstall your old drivers from Add/Remove Programs, boot up in safe mode, open up Driver Cleaner, clean out old drivers; then boot up in normal mode and install the new drivers, restart and everything should be dandy.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Rhys. I started work at 9 just 11 minutes after the first bomb, which they said was the power surge and I listened to the 5 Live constant coverage all day after that.

:( Fortunately know one I know was involved in it, but I feel the same as you about those that where. Terrible.

Anyway, yes that is what I meant, Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs. I can't say I have ever had an obstinate driver to get rid of, but iiI have upgraded the drivers on my rig and this old one many times without problems, but they all where WHQL Certified.

What was said about Safe Mode is a good point - Hold the Ctrl key as you boot and a menu will appear to go to safe mode. Doing it from there will help.

What are the problems your having anyway? They could be more specific.
