Unsmooth performance even at high framerates?

Postby Robban_Sweden » Mon Jun 13, 2005 7:06 am

When I'm either turning the airplane, or looking at the plane from the side, any time the background picture is moving a little faster you could say, the picture seems to stop for milliseconds, even if the framerate is at over 60.
The "stopping" isn't regular, like it is at low framerates.
And I thought high framerates would make this simulator run smooth as a baby's but...  :)

Does anyone have a clue?

Note: The settings doesn't affect it, since the framerate can be 80 or 90, and it still does this.

Main specs.
3.0 CPU
1024 memory
ASUS EN6600GT/TD 128 Mb graphics card PCI-E
160 Gb harddrive

Stutters like you describe are usually from the hdd being read too much.

I downloaded the PCI Latency program, but I can't say I know what to do next.
Is it the Device Name "nVidia Corporation DevID: 0140" I should change the settings for.
It says "Latency 000" for that one. What does that mean?

Damn I'm tired of this  >:(
Flew over Seattle with Extremely dense scenery complexity and dense autogen density, and rather high settings over all, and the framerate is at 25 fps at the lowest, but this stuttery shit makes me crazy! It's like having 10 fps sometimes!
I sure hope there's some solution for this even for my system, because this is just not fun  :'(
I don't know if this PCI Latency program works with PCI-E slots, I hope so...

Look for the NVidia one that has a number larger than 064 next to it.  Then change it to 064, then save and exit.

Here is an extract from the program's readme, Notes: section...............

"Not all devices have programmable Latency Timers. If a device has a default latency value <= 16, then most likely it's not programmable.

You can update the PCI ID database by downloading a new version and replacing the existing one:
http://pciids.sourceforge.net/pci.ids "

Maybe your device isn't in the list yet? Try setting it to 64 using the "quickset" option (right click on it) and see what happens.......... or maybe get the updated database and see if your device id's correctly so it can

It didn't make any differense changing it to 64.

In the Latency Program, this is the only line I see have anything to do with the graphics card:

001   00    0    VGA compatible controller (VGA)    nVidia Corporation DevID: 0140

and it says Latency: 000   New Latency N/A

I suppose I'll have to live with it  :'(
