Get a faster hampster ;)
25FPS is about the maximum a human eye can detect anyways. What have you got your sliders set to? Just there is no point setting your FPS slider above 30 as it just wastes processor power...

You sometimes have to compromise a bit, also a lot of people spend time tweaking their system for the best possible performance.
A hampster is a small furry creature that runs in a wheel and powers your computer ;) Unless of course you're like me in which case it's steam powered ;D

To my understanding your PC is a dell?  :-/ :'( If so they probably stuffed it full of B$ software, If it was my PC id reformat the disks with a clean XP installation (get hold of a proper XP disk) & install the absolute minimum programs you can get away with. I may even go as far as setting up two XP installations with one completely stripped of unnecessary XP components just for FS & whatever else you play.

Ozzy as usual has hit the nail on the head, but might I suggest a Gerbil instead  :D

But then again I wouldn't touch a dell.... I believe the XP disk would have to be the same OEM series etc otherwise your key wouldn't work so I wouldn't from the sound of things recommend you doing that.

and dell is good.

From the nature of the topic I would never have guessed :)

Can you take a screenshot of your open processes in windows task manager? I have 26 running on my non-optimised internet XP install.

Number 1, Dell isn't good, ask anybody who knows how to build a PC and they'd confirm it! - Why pay somebody like Dell for a nice looking, but, relatively poor spec PC when the same money will in most cases result in a better hand built system.

Number 2, If you experience poor performance, then the first thing you should do is update all of your drivers.
Graphics Card, Sound Card, Motherboard and, finally Direct X.

"Have you updated your drivers?" is standard parrot style answers from most PC-support lines, actually, they are absolutely right, for once!

3, 25FPS at MAX settings in FS9 is damn good, especially if your using anti-alaiasing.  ;)

4, Manners cost nothing, don't be so quick to bite somebody who's trying to offer some constructive advice, Dell & most other Manufactured PC's come with all kinds of "B$" Software installed, a clean install of XP is the smart move.

5, What in hell a "Hampster" is, I don't know, but, we are talking about a reply from Ozzy72 here..... Hamsters are the most common rodent kept as pets. When speaking of hamsters, people are almost exclusively referring to the Syrian or Golden Hamster, although there are several dwarf varieties kept as pets. The original variation of the Syrian Hamster is golden, but they are now available in many colors as well as long haired "teddy bear" varieties.  ;) ;D

Well just look at your ATi controol panel. Hell by changeing one thing I went from having 34FPS to 50FPS in a matter of minutes. Screw around with your drivers.

Oh and cobzz I thought you had Alienware.......which might be your other problem.

cobzz,

Sounds about right to me if you have pretty much everything maxed.  FS2004 is a BEAR of a program on a machine if you try to get out of it what it is capable of.

best,
