AMD or Intel

Postby imchief » Wed Mar 23, 2005 1:10 pm

I need a new MB and CPU.  I would like an unbiased (if that's possible) on which chip set is better suited for FS2004.  P4 3Ghz  or AMD 3000+/3200+ or AMD 64 3000+/3200+

thanks

Rumor has it that AMD is better for gaming, but I personally prefer Intel, since that's all I've ever owned.

I know what you mean though.  It's hard sometimes to differentiate between fact and preference...welcome to my hell!
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

Most benchmarks and people will tell you AMD games better. Intel encodes better...I explained a bit why in one of Hypernions posts but do some reasearch... ;)

I might be the first to post this little idea, but AMD 3800+ and 4000+ 64bit cpu's are in the shops.

It might be worth waiting a couple months to see what prices do in the meantime. Remember, you heard it here first!

AMD's are better for gaming and other apps that require brute force processing.

Intel's are better for digital manipulation. This includes video encoding, synthetic benchmarks, 3d rendering, etc.

Since you ask for best suited for fs2004, get an AMD. fs2004, like almost any game, performs better on a AMD.

Thank you for the suggestions.  I always thought amd was better but some people said that FS is very cpu dependant and Intel was faster in that aspect.

For all practical purposes, the two major players are closing the gap on each other at present. AMD is not bad at encoding now by the way, it gets the job done nicely with the 64bit platform.
