What graphic card?

Postby FridayChild » Mon Feb 14, 2005 7:38 am

I'd like to ask the community which they think is:
1) the absolute best graphic chipset for FS2004
2) the "best-buy" (good price but still great performance) graphic chipset for FS2004.
I'd want to start from here building my new PC.

Not sure about the best buy, but the best card is either the ATI radeon 9800 pro or the nVidia GeForce 6800GT Overclocked version. These are both insane graphics cards and arent cheap. I would go with whatever you find out the best buy is.
Asus A8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2 80 GB HD'S
nVidia GeForce 5500OC
FS2004

Nvidia 6600GT or a 6800GT  (which 90% will overclock safely to "Ultra" speeds)

What about the ATI Radeon chipsets? Any thoughts?
And what about the new PCI standard (PCI-X if I'm not mistaken): worth a try or is it better to stick with AGP?

1) The radeon X850 XT PE (Its PCI-e) (it even beats out dual 6800 Ultras due to no fs9 support for SLI)

2)The 6600 gt offers the best performence for its price.

Just ordered the BFG OC'd version of the 6600 GT AGP.  But not sure how to set it up with FS9. With an Athlon 3200XP, half a gig of dual-channel DDR 400 are there ballpark settings I can use to get the most from the card and still be stable? ???

Since your building new, I suggest you buy a PCI-express motherboard. That way you are future proof.

1) ATI X850 XT PE is the absolute best. Not even in dual SLI 6800 ultras can beat it in fs2004 due to fs2004 lack for support for SLI. Its costs about 600 USD.

2)6600 gt is the best card for price/performence ratio. Comparable ATI cards such as the x600 simply don't compare. The 6600 gt is about 200 USD.
