Microphone Issues

Postby Eskimo » Tue Jan 25, 2005 2:01 am

As a controller on VATSIM, I rely on my microphone a lot.  And it was working fine until yesterday when the pilots I was controlling had trouble hearing me, and then heard nothing at all!

I thought that the jack may have come out so I pulled it out and put it back in and still nothing.

I can also not record in sound recorder so I don't know if it works or not.  When I try it brings up an error box (the computers way of saying I don't know ;)) saying:

Your audio hardware cannot record files into files like the current file.  To record, create a new document.

WTF??  I have created several new documents and it still doesn't work.  As well as all this, in ASRC, the radar client we use, I ran the audio setup and when it can to recording my voice to get the sound levels right, it says:

an unnamed file was not found

And, if it's any help, in the menu bar it says mccmfc.

This is really annoying and, yes, I have tried it with different microphones.  What can I do to fix this as I can't advance up the controlling ladder without voice.

Sounds like it might be a missing win32 or program file (driver or process) but it could be anything for what I know about sound systems on pc's, being no computer expert I can't be sure. More information might help i.e. What your sound set-up is (soundcard, mic, drivers etc.). Re-installing any sound drivers might solve it, but I wouldn't advise it, wait for someone with more experience (I don't want to end up destroying your pc  ;))

Silly question, but you haven't maybe switched from half-duplex to full-duplex on the microphone? I once spent nearly half an hour online with Romulus before I realised what the problem was :-[ We had a good 2 hour chat and told each other some v.colourful jokes after that ;D ;D ;D

I wouldn't know how to switch from half-duplex to full if I tried so I don't think that's the problem.

My current sound driver is emu10k1f.sys, Version 5.12.0001.3204 is that helps.

The sound card is also a sb live! wave device.

I don't know if that'll help, but it's worth a try.

I'm also considering contacting M$ with this problem, though I don't know what they'll be able to do. ;) :)

Don't panic everyone, I managed to solve the problem by finding out the somehow, the focus had gone off the mic and onto the cd audio.  Switching it back changed this.  Thanks for your help everyone.
