Want advice on Building  a computer.

Postby Saitek » Wed Dec 29, 2004 10:55 am

Can anyone give general advice (this is for my Dad) as he wants to build our first computer. Perhaps you know of some good sites (we live in the UK) that are recommendable for parts. (Maybe ebay).
Which parts are best bought new, which are ok second hand etc. He is a lot better on computers than me ;) but we'd like to do it - it's just that we haven't done anything like it before apart from the usual fittings on upgrades.
Maybe someone could match up a selection of bits from a British site that we need. Price tag is roughly
Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 2GHz
GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2) DDR2 6400C4 800Mhz
GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
2 x 22" monitors
200GB Sata
Be Quiet! Straight Power 650W

Thanks guys.. we'll be looking at that site. My dad is just looking at a manual for building them. I'm really looking forward to it. It looks really fun!

if you want to see the worst case scenerio as a result of building your own, look at my thread "building new PC". I second GunnerMans advice: buy the CPU and MoBo new. because as I recently found out, a bad AMD chip can ruin a good MoBo, or vice versa.
