I'm having a bit of confusion,
I'm looking to get another stick of RAM for the old rig.
Currently I have 768Mb and want to boost to 1gig.

I have upgraded a 512Mb stick last year and wanted to add another but problem is I can't locate anything that matches my current 512 stick

PNY PC2100 (133MHz) 512 MB DDR SDRAM

Problem is I can find some sticks where everything matches except for the speed (133MHz) everything I find is 266MHz

Question is will putting a stick with a speed of 266 work with another of 133

Or is the only way for me to upgrade now is to buy 2 new sticks rated at the same speed?

I have done some more research now need someone to verify if my understanding is correct.

I'm thinking that I have a 256 Mb and a 512Mb stick of RAM in my computer. I'm assuming that my 512 stick is a 266MHz speed, and that the 256 MB stick is slower (it is original equiptment).
So the reason Everest program is showing the 512 stick at 133MHz is because the computer is running at the weakest links speed being 133MHz which is probably caused by the 256 MB stick of RAM that came with the computer.

So really i can add a stick rated at 266 without any problem, correct???

Reason I say this is because I can't find any memory compatable for a Dell Dimension that is rated at 133MHz.
So I'm thinking even though the stick of ram is rated for higher speed it doesn't necessarily need to run at that speed but will work wth what the computer is capable of doing or whatever speed the "weakest link" is capable of.
Would this thinking be correct?

Hi,

PC2100 RAM is DDR 266mhz, (it really is 133mhz, but the ram gets used on the upswing and downswing of the clock cycle wavelength, hence the term " double data rate or DDR".

The old PC133, (the true 133mhz RAM) won't even fit in your PC, it's a different size slot.

What you want is simply PC2100 DDR RAM.

Chances are that PC2700 and PC3200 will work fine as well, but it will only run at the rated PC2100 on your PC.

If it were me, I'd buy PC3200 as it is about the same price, and you can use it in a new PC if you decide to "Dump the Dell"    ;D

Well I went over to the local Staples to get some memory.
It is where I bought my other stick and it is closer than any other place.

They didn't have any PC2100 so I asked about the 2700 or the 3200 and the guy was being a jerk trying to say that there was no way it would work. I told him I asked the experts and they answered, but he denied everything you wrote Congo. So after about 15 minutes short of smacking the guy, I said listen I'm the one paying you the money now you can either sell it too me or i'll go elsewhere. I mean come on if this dude really knew what he was talking about he wouldn't be working a minimum wage job
He gave in and handed the cashier a new stick of 512Mb PC2700 DDR Ram, this is where the lords of the morons was watching over the Mr. Knowitall., he handed the cashier a UPC sticker to scan for the memory, she scanned it and with the instant "In Store Rebate" my $124 stick of RAM came to the nice price of $14.95!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course I didn't say nothing I paid my $15 and took my reciept and headed out the door. While looking at the reciept I noticed she charged me for a SD card not a stick of memory  

Well needless to say I can't return my new purchase so i came home and figured well if it doesn't work so be it I'll save it for later. Popped it in and wala! Computer reconizes it fine and I'm now running a Gig of RAM for the feeble price of $14.95!!
