Switching on by itself?

Postby terbert » Fri Sep 24, 2004 4:29 pm

???

Anyone got any ideas why my comp switches itself on?
Done it a few times now. I have just built it myself and everything is fine but for this problem. Running Windows XP and the M/Board is PC Chips M8v8ALU.
I assume it could be something in BIOS to alter.
This is probably an associated problem with the aforementioned because as I have to turn off at the mains to stop the problem, every time I boot up I have to go to Setup first.

The only time I have had this happen was with a defragmenter program that you could schedule a time for it to do its thing. Is something like a program you have a possibility?

This happens on my reserve PC if I forget to switch the external modem off when I shut it down. If the phone rings it switches the PC on.

There are a number of settings that you can do in the computer that tell it to "wake" on certain activity.... such as scheduled tasks, LAN activity, modem incoming calls, and so on.

I can't remember where all of them are.... but I bet someone here can tell you soon.

best,

...............john

PS:  Also does the word VIRUS mean anything to you?  :(  Run a full system scan with current data files.

My PC turns on if something or someone taps the spacebar.

Freaked me out until I found the cat dancing on the key board. rofl
