force feedback not working

Postby Moach » Mon Sep 13, 2004 9:55 pm

hi there...

i just got myself a brand new sound card, a sound blaster live x-gamer.

i installed it alright, no problems... the only thing is that force feedback isn't working... (i've tried  games other than FS too, none worked...)

i have the old sidewinder force feedback pro 1.0 (gameport)
running windows xp

any ideas?

I had trouble with my Old Sidewinder...Probably the gameport is the problem.  I now use a Saitek X45 stick/throttle combo.  I believe it makes for more fun!

If you really want to get real then get a flight yoke.

This is probably in the wrong forum tho...

an update to the issue here...

as a side problem, i was having low fps with flightsim, lower than usual...

so i tried turning off joystick forces in FS, WHOA man! what a difference! my 9 fps jumped up to 25! i figured then that when FS tries to use force feedback but can't for some reason, the frame rate will sink like a lead zeppelin ;D

but that didn't actually SOLVE my force feedback problem, i wonder if this sound card is compatible with force feedback....

BTW: i recently bought also a new ATI radeon 9800XT 256mb... i have FS maxed out now!!!!!;D;D;D;D;D

Do you have problem only with the force feedback or the joystick doesnt work at all?
When I first installed my Audigy my joystick stoped working (used the mobo gameport)so I had to use the sound card gameport.

Is there anything you have to disable in BIOS? i.e. the onboard gameport and sound?  maybe there is a conflict of some kind.

I have tried 2 or 3 force feedback joysticks, my latest being the Thrustmaster Fox pro. Everyone I tried is completely unrealistic as far as feedback is concerned. I would prefer a heavy springed device with no center detent. I am working on a better feedback system that will tighten up forces in high G turns and go limp during a stall. Got ways to go yet tho.

the joystick works fine in all games, but it has no force feedback...

and my motherboard does not have a gameport... that's why i had to buy the sound card.

but it does have drivers for it, i disabled the onboard gameport drivers in device manager but that didn't make too much of a difference...

i'm gonna try that BIOS thing now...
