Burning a back-up CD: To include both XP+SP2.

Postby Fozzer » Sun Sep 12, 2004 4:33 am

Hi All...!

For anyone who has the knowledge and the patience to create a single back-up CD containing both Windows XP and Service Pack 2, have a read here...>>>

http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/20040908/index.html

I've just read it, got a headache, and am continuing to use Windows '98 SE....LOL... ;D...!
But for those few masochists out there who would like to combine both programs on a single back-up CD you may find it useful... ;).... ;D...!

Cheers all... ;)...!

Paul.

People, don't get Service Crap 2. I installed it and my computer kept crashing on start up. Other people are reporting lots of problems with it including major preformance losses.  Just stick with XP SP1.

Humm, my 3000th post. Better find another hobby.

One of the biggest problems with the SP2 install is spyware already on the machine that it is being installed too. A problem M$ is well aware of and is trying to get people to realize. SP2 contains many features for protecting from spyware but it can't do anything about spyware that is already installed.
Before installing SP2 be sure and do a spyware/adware scan using more than on piece of software Spybot & Adaware is good.
Scan for any viruses (of course be sure antivirus software is up to date).
And make a restore point before installing SP2, windows will create its own but it doesn't hurt to be on the safe side.
I have run SP2 since it was a Beta and got nothing but improvments, but this is me and may not be the case with others. I also installed it in safe mode, although some might not recommend doing that, it is the way I decided to do it, and it worked great, also made sure that no other apps were running at the time of install, especially anti-virus software.

Sorry Fret. I scanned my computer with Ad-Aware and Spybot fully updated. I was clean. No apps running in the background. No big loss.

When I re-formatted I installed XP then I put SP2 straight on after this.  Have had no problems what so ever so far  ;D  Just turned off the new security thing, went into somthin else to so the bubble doesn't keep appearing on the taskbar warning that my PC is in danger.  Noticed no performance loss so it seems ok to me.  Suppose it depends on all the other junk on your system at the time of install.
