can any of you tell me whats "normal" temp for my ati 9800xt, 256m is?..i'm running about 80c during flight sim...seems awfull high to me...  my specs;
p4 2.6
2gig ram pc2700
radion 9800xt
latest drivers, etc
i have added additional fan, but not much difference, also upgraded psu from 250 to true power 430w
i kmow that "lesser" cards run a lot cooler, so just wondering if my temps ok?

thanx hi-d...yea, you did mention this before and i appreciate your response.  the question is, however, not  how ati arrives at the temp reading, rather, is the reading i'm getting normal or not??.......would like to hear from a 9800xt user so i can compare temps.....thanx again

skittles..thanx for the reply.....i did add an extra fan, not much of an improvement....how do you install a heat  sink..i know what it is and what it does, but i dont know where you install it???directly on to the video card?

A VGA silencer is a good option.  They are very good at cooling and are very quiet.  Not pricey either.

Depending on the kit you get, the heat sink installs onto the card and the fan to the heatsink, just like a CPU.

I have an IceQ in what I consider to be a pretty hot environment - case ambient is 40c, Barton 2500+ is 48c idle, and the Radeon 9800 Pro flashed to XT is running 69c (according to ATITool).

I have not heard that the R360 were interpolated vs. taken w/a thermistor, but that's good to know.

Anyone give me an idea how to check the temperature for a GeForce4MX440? Never been able to find it.  ???

They don't support it m8, sry, just touch the ram chips (carefully and have your skin touching the metal PC case) while it's battling some heavy graphics and see if it burns you, if you can stand the heat on your finger for 10 seconds or so, it's ok. If it burns, it's too hot. Remember, when you shut the case it's gonna get hotter, especially in summer or long periods of use.
