I have now been getting hit with the "blue screen of death" again.
Last time this has happened was after updateing my video card drivers (GeForce FX 5200).
I have not updated them since my last problem and found that the 53.03 drivers worked the best and kept my system stable. But when the B.S.O.D popped up that was the first place I looked (warning says internal power failiure)

In the Device Manager it list my card driver as 53.04 (?)
In the Nividia card settings it is listed as 6.14.10.4403

Obviously something not right, I searched files and folders and couldn't find why there are two different driver numbers. In the Nividia folder it has the 53.04 driver only.

How can this be???
The uncanny thing is that after the last fiasco and I thought I had everything stable Both the Device Manager and the Nividia Control panel listed my driver as 53.03 and everything worked like a charm, but seems they have changed on thier own and now causing some sort of conflict??

Very strange. Did you remember to remove the old drivers before installing the new ones?

Yes I used Driver Cleaner 3, and also made sure i had all traces out of the registry,folders etc. So it was a clean install.

Now I get the blue screen and it states HIDCLASS.SYS "page fault in non-paged area" What the hell does that mean???

I will get that error message or internal power failure, everytime I reboot.
I checked for viruses etc, nothing.
I got to thinking about the "power failure" error and was wondering about the battery, how long does one last and does it have anything to do with windows starting up?

Have you tried re-installing the video driver again, maybe from a different source?

Also re-install direct X. It simply wont do it if it doesnt need to.

It's not the battery, that's just your bios backup, you would see a different set of symptoms if that was the case.

Well just when it looks like i fixed something, something else goes wacko!
The most resent "blue screen" was "Driver unloaded without cancelling pending operation"

Once again contacted Dell and M$, and both say they have no Idea what this is! MORONS!! IT IS YOUR SYSTEM GIVING ME THE ERROR! It isn't like I typed my own error message!
God these idiots piss me off!
They wanted to know if I could get a screenshot! Sure that is the easiest thing to do when you can't boot up because of the B.S.O.D.!
Eveytime I get the blue screen it is a different error which is making it imposible to track what is causing it.
I'm not a computer expert but have learned allot fast and have some good common sense, but the M$ morons don't help so I come here

Congo you mentioned a CDRom drive causing problems?
I know one of my drive if I insert a audio cd, won't play it any longer. So how do I check to see if it might be having problems, device manager says it is fine, i no longer use it it just sits there, the only time I ran it was for burning.
What is IDE cable?

Why are you using 53.03 and 53.04?  I've been using the 61.12 betas for weeks now and love them.  Just curious if the older ones are better?

The 53.03 seem to be the most stable for my computer.
That is when I started getting the "Blue screen". Started after updating the drivers to the newest certified Nividia (57.**)  those bog down FS9 bad so I un-installed and tried the 61.11 that have been highly recommeded as the best at Driver heaven, after installing them I started getting the blue screen, rolled back to the 53.03 and the system seems stable??? Better frame rates etc.
I'm uncertain if it is the drivers causing my most reason series of trouble or something more serious.
So far I have booted up 3 times without the Blue screen, so maybe the bug is working out?
But something isn't right, the 53.04 I don't even know where that driver number came from, I had the 53.03 installed and one day I checked the version I had and it was listed as .04???
But these seem to be the best I have been able too use so far.
Now if I can figure out my kneeboard problem I might be happy, that one is boggling the mind!

You have my sympathy lol.

The IDE cable is the big flat ribbon cable that connects to your Hard drive and cdrom drives, the only other cables to them is the power connector. (but there could be a small, thin, 2 wire audio cable for audio cd playback on the cdrom drives...... if that slips off you won't hear the audio cd play).

Try like I said above, it sounds like a loose ram stick to be quite honest, but it could be a few things.

Be scientific and do 1 thing at a time in a process of elimination, until the problem stops, then you have your culprit.

It could still be a software prob of course.

Before trying the disection method I looked for updates.
Of course M$ has a thousand different ones, but I no longer download M$ updates because they all pertain to IE Security or other things that I don't use on my system (all pertaining to security) makes me wonder why people use IE???
Every update has to do with screw ups that allow hackers in, get Netscape or Firefox browers, never been a security leak with them!
There was DirectX b, I had (a) so I downloaded it, no differance with the "kneeboard" problem.
One thing I did do is chkdisk, after that ran no more problems??? Don't have a clue as to what it did as we all know most M$ things either display results in the blink of a eye or so much at once you must be a speed reader to catch anything. God forgive a message gives you time to focus on it to read.
But so far blue screen hasn'r showed, but would be nice to know what it did to fix itself!
When I get some time I'll open the box and clean it out try to do that at least once a month anyway and I'l check to see that everything is pluged in tight!

I'm glad you sorted it with a checkdisk, it's odd it didn't run automatically to fix it. Hope it doesn't happen again.    

If it's running fine then just dust it, no need to pull things out of slots etc.

Just a update, for a few days I have been able to use the computer without seeing the Blue Screen, until this morning.
I belive I have tracked down part of the problem.
I use O&O Defrag, and I ran it last night, turn on the computer this morning and Blue Screen stating "internal power failure", used system restore to log on.
Seems that now that I think about it last time I defraged using the above mentioned program, i recieved the blue screen on the next log in.
So is it possible that the O&O Defrag program might be moving some important files that are needed to start up Wimdows XP?
I wouldn't think a defragment would cause problems but I'm almost positive that this is what is occuring.

Well I think I have finally traced sown my problem.
Doesn't seem to be the Defrag program, all wires and cables inside are secure, it seems to be caused by me M$ (go figure) Force Feedback joystick!
If I boot up the computer with the joystick pluged into the USB port I'll get the Blue Screen stating "Internal Power failure"!
If I boot up with it unplugged she boots up just fine. Tried it both ways, and also ran the Defrag program to see if it had anything to do with it and it only happens when I try to boot up with the joystick plugged in.
Ever hear of this problem???

Well, USB does draw power.

But doesn't that stick have it's own PSU?

At any rate, it sounds like the stick's faulty, unless it's the USB port. Maybe try a different device in that USB port, Or try the joystick in another Port.
