I feel I should know this one...

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

I feel I should know this one...

Postby Woodlouse2002 » Fri Oct 27, 2006 3:42 pm

But up till now I've never needed to know.

How does one get 3rd party aircraft in campaigns? I have an absolute fleet of British bombers I would like to use and I can't for the life of my figure it out and all I can find trawling the forums is that once people figure it out they don't say how they just say "all sorted now!"

So, help!

Please. :)

Open the campaign file with a text editor and find the line that has on it. After that, you should find a list of aircraft types. It should look like this:

Just add the 1% planes to it like this:

Be sure to use the M3D ID *3gb_mosquito_mkvi* not the folder ID 3gb_mosquito_mk_6.  Also they are case sensitive.

They will not add to an existing open campaign.

They will not show up if the campaign date is prior to the in-service date.

If you have a "failure to load" be sure that a specific aircraft name has not been changed & you have for every entry in the campaign a corresponding  plane in the CFS3/aircraft folder.

You can leave planes out or add new ones in with an edit as long as the contents of the aircraft folder contains all the planes in the campaign.xml

Step By Step

Open main CFS3 Folder

Open the Campaign Folder

Click on "fortress europa" XML file.

Copy it to your desktop.

Rename desktop copy to "3-fortress europa"

Return "3-fortress europa" to the campaign folder

Open the file & add 1 plane for a test.

To find the planes ID:

Open the main CFS3 Folder

Open the Aircraft folder

Select a plane & open its Folder

Open the Model Folder

Use the name of the M3D File in that folder.

Caution you are only using the NAME of the file not the whole file.

In the example above 3gb_mosquito_mkvi was the M3D file name which is the one you want to use to add the plane.

The actual name on the main Mosquito aircraft folder is 3gb_mosquito_mk_6. This name will NOT add the plane to the campaign.

Exception to the rule (there always is one)...not all our planes have a "model" folder. If the plane does not have one - like the Mosquito - just search in the planes main folder for the M3D file by sliding your mouse over them to get the name to show up.

I did that before and it caused the sim to stop working. Must have done something wrong. I'll give it another go.

I am not a campaign guy..can just tell you how to get our planes onto them.   ;)

That being said I don't see why not as MAW will have a number of start dates.

Just had a play and I don't think it's too hard. Only difficulty I came across was setting frontlines up as they were stopping HQ's forming or something like that. I'll have another fiddle over the weekend.

One thing I've also discovered is that adding aircraft to a campaign seemed to mean they were deleted upon reinstalling the sim. Though having said that the Swordfish and Battle seemed to survive the purge however all the other British bombers and the B17 got wiped.

Also, is there any reason why the autospawn disable tool from groundcrew would knock out cfs3 altogether?

Between two start ups of the sim all I did was run the programme and from then on I couldn't get past the splashscreen.

I thought I was fairly proficient at CFS3... But I've done more to it in the last week than in the last four years. I knew there was a lot to this sim but still, live and learn eh. ;D
