Engines on fire

Postby IndioBlack » Sat Oct 01, 2005 6:00 pm

My B-17 got badly shot-up over France today, with Engine 2 catching fire. I quickly pulled off the power to that Engine alone, and then attempted a maximum speed dive at around 400Kts, which in the old Microsoft Sim used to put out the flames. Unfortunately, the darn thing just kept burning, so we had to bail before we exploded.
So whilst we're trying to escape out of France and back to Blighty, can someone advise if there is any way in this Sim to put out Engine fires?
I'm trying to remember if I switched the mixture off for that engine, or pulled the prop back to zero, and maybe I didn't. Would this have any effect?
It's obviously better if someone has any advice or experience on this, because trying to recreate the exact situation could take some time, and the French wine is rather nice.  8)
