Leon,
Thanks for the MB, it, along with Aviation History and other sites have saved CFS3 from being a complete waste of time and money to the promise of the best ever. I expected a jump forward from CFS2 but was flabbergasted by the one step forward and a country mile backward. In CFS2 we could go into the campaign missions and correct the many mistakes like ships being at the wrong battle, having the wrong name for that class, or not being completed on that mission date yet (did you know you had a US destroyer escorting a Jap carrier?)etc. In 3 we had no option. Now, we can build missions with 1% planes that fly more to real life (I have been putting out a few missions myself). Next, somewhat realistic campaigns.
My only problems in MB, besides my own mistakes, are getting escorts to work. I have no problem getting my group escorted, but the problem is when I try to be the escort. Since I have yet to hear of anyone getting these to work in the regular game (GameSpy) this is consistent. If you download Ruff-Missions ( Simviation, Missions-campaigns)and run the second and third Normandy missions, you can see how I winged it and got it to work. Maybe you have fixed this and I haven’t heard. Are your fixes gonna continue to be for no third party files only?
As for your campaigns, can you please fill us in on your reference as to when a General would tell his pilots “Today you will attack a German heavy cruiser” “Wait a dang minute there General, that suckers got lotsa AA so we all decided weze gonna do CAP today, so go stick it, SIR. After all we fighter pilots dictate the course of the war, right boys.”
Leon, what war did they get this from. BG can do what ever he wants, but to label it “as real as it gets is”, degrades everything done in MS simulators to date.
Still the platform allows us to rebuild this into something good and we are glad it can be fixed. Also I know you are trying to fix what you can as well. The patch and MB have made a big difference and now I am enjoying the sim when I had put it aside and bought IL-2.
Another question for you. How does Ubi get their AI so good while our 3 wingmen fly around without considering releasing their weapons on the enemy (Rarely they will) In IL-2 it seems if you stayed out of the fight, the wingmen do as they would in real life, their mission. The main purpose in 3 is for them to be distractions for enemy fighters and AA.
We all paid the going rate for 3 and it is because so many unpaid people have put in the time that has straightened out CFS3. I hope BG has made a nice contribution to AvHistory for their stellar efforts to make flyable planes. They have, undoubtedly, prompted many people to buy CFS3 that would never have considered it otherwise. Not to mention the efforts of Ground Crew, SimOuthouse and Simviation to name a few. Thanks for sticking your neck out and joining us. We all want the same thing, a better simulation experience and hey, you get paid to hear me vent.
Best,
BOB RUFF
