Newbie questions

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

Newbie questions

Postby Timbo2015 » Thu Nov 25, 2004 10:23 pm

I am new to CFS, and I can't figure these things out.

1)  When I click on a map square, it lists 3 sets of numbers for the allies, and 3 for the axis.  I can't seem to find anything that tells me what these numbers mean.

2)  Trim seems screwed up.  When autotrim is on, the plane always (P47) wants to climb at 2000 ft/min.  If I press 7, it noses down, then begins to climb again.  If I turn off autotrim and trim it manually, it seems to hold where I set it.

No replies yet.  Are these difficul?  As long as I am at it, I will add another:

If you fail to complete a mission and land back at the base, perhaps because you are out of ammo, how do you make the mission stop?  Only way I have figured out is to get back up in the air and bail out of a perfectly good airplane.  Is there a way to reload and go back?

Does anybody actually read this forum?

Another question:  When I select a mission, there are a certain number of asterisks in front of it (1, 2 or 3).  What do these mean?  Do they relate to the strategic value of the mission?

I spent a long time perusing the manual and could not find answers to any of my questions.  The closest I got was the manual saying to hold the cursor over a production center and it would dispay numbers.  The manual I looked at is the online help, reached by pressing F1.  Is there another manual I should be looking at.

I also spent a long time searching the database.  Again, I could find no answers, except on the trim issue.  If I got the general gist of it, trim is pretty screwed up and there did not seem to be a solution.

All I want is some direction on where to look.  I am not looking for someone to spoonfeed the information because I am too lazy to look myself.  Just saying look in the manual or the database is not quite detailed enough.  I guess I am looking in the wrong manual and searching wrong.  Some help would be appreciated.

Timbo i sympathise really, i know how annoying that is.

And they are dam good questions took the words right out of my mouth. Couldnt seem to find alot of things on the manual.

Another question to add to the list:

Is their anyway to operate machineguns using the mouse??????

It is DAMN hard to shoot a fighter twisting and turning at you at 150mph, and when your in an He 111 or Do 17 you REALLY need to keep him outside 250-300 or he will down you with a quick 3 second burst for sure!!

When you click on a frontline sector it should display a couple of missions to choose from the list, no numbers.
Seems your installation went down south?

Could it be these numbers are the grid co-ordinates?

When I click on a square, the available missions show up in a drop-down menu at the bottom of the map.  This is not what my question is about.  A box actually opens up on the map.   The box contains vaious pieces of information.  One is the coordinates, it is a number such as j22, or m23.  You can move from suare to square and see that the coordinates make sense.  What I am asking about is farther down in the box.  It will say something like:

Allies:  88,35,56
Axis :   80,52,45

I don't know what these numbers mean.  I can't seem to find what they are in the manual, and so far nobody on this forum is willing and/or able to tell me.  Perhaps my question was not clear enough.

Ah rgr Timbo.
Actually I never noticed these before, LOL.
Looked through the documents but no, there is nothing about it.
Seems like it lists the strategical strength though in the sector or something, just no clue what the values exactly mean :(

Hello, near as I have found out, the numbers that you are seeing are the number of troops in a particular area of the front line. Sometimes looking at these numbers and doing a mission where your troops are way out numbered helps move the front line .You do have to stick around for awhile though and totally destroy everything you can. As far as help goes, you cant beat this forum, has helped my out aolt and am very gratefull. Another good spot is CFS3's own website and check out the support docs there. Or put your CD in, click "run" chose the CD and search the CD itself.
War is war, real and also spiritual, but above all, always remeber that Jesus is Lord !
