engine manual start in flight

Postby overland48 » Sat Dec 04, 2004 3:10 am

I need help trying to get the manual start to work while in flight. Every mission i fly the engine quits in the middle of a battle. I have plenty of fuel. mix ratio is in auto. the engine quits and I would like to know how to keep this from happening every flight. Its damn frustrating when manual start procedure will not work for me. I follow the procedure for single engine start. Shift 1, ctrl f7, shift ctrl f7, throttle back all the way, forward just a little, ctrl b, ctrl m, ctrl s. The engine should start right. For me it does not. The only combo keys that show on the screen are shift 1, # 1 engine select. I would love some advice on how to make it work.

overland, when your engine quits in the middle of a battle it's most likely due to battle damage, maybe due to direct engine hits or coolant or oil reservoir damage.
There is no way to restart your engine in that case.

Well I guess I need to improve on my fighter pilot skills. Because it happens in every battle I thought it was a glitch. Thanx for the input Mathias.

It could be due to battle damage, but to be sure, look at the panel, is the battery on, is the mags on. The prop should turn if the battery is on. Ofcourse this only helps, if you have set buttons to actuate thos controls!

Trap, I looked at the cockpit control configuration and all keyboard combos are set for the different functions. These are already set by default, is it not? Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe Mathias to be correct. I never thought about battle damage. I watched the damage report as they popped up on the screen and sure enough coolant, fuel loss, oil loss willl keep the engine from starting. thanx for the input.

OK.. I was thinking of my flying at 100%. I have my setup to control Battery, mag on, mag off and I control my mixture - Rich to Lean. Usually @ 100% and with my controls, I move my mixture control to rich. If that don't work then battery off, mags off. battery on, mags on three times (this gives me all three mags) mixture full rich, the I hit my engine start button.
In your case hit E and if it don't start, you have two things you can do.. Bail Out or hit Esc.
Sorry guys

#3 would be to to feather your props (Shift minus for a while) and try to glide to friendly territory.
