Can I run CFS3 *SUCCESSFULY*...on this machine ?

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

Can I run CFS3 *SUCCESSFULY*...on this machine ?

Postby hawkeye » Sat Jan 24, 2004 1:01 pm

I would like to know if this machine :  WIN98SE  /   1.2 Ghz Athlon  / Voodoo5500 AGP.......    will run CFS3 'properly'.......

If you will look on the FS2004   Forum...subject virtually the same,   you can see the background to this question..

Thank you....

Properly, not in my opinion.
Barely, yes, maybe, I think.
How much and what type RAM, HD size? how much MB on the Voodo card. Less than 512RAM and 64MB on the card and I say wait for your upgraded computer. Should do IL-2, a very good sim, on that.

Thanks, Bob.....  pretty much the same as they told me on the FS2004  Forum...

As I said there, my Kids wanted to buy one of these for me...actually  FS2004....   but I didn't know if these much newer simulations  would  fit MY  equipment...

Hawkeye,

I have a 1.7Ghz P4 with a 256MB graphics card and I get very poor performance out of CFS3.  You should be able to pick up a very cheap CFS1 and CFS2 these days, CFS1 is fun and CFS2 possibly the best combat flight sim out there.  There are people here (you know who you are Katahu ;)) who will reccomend IL2 and that will run reasonably well on your machine.

As for the FS2k4 issue, I have better frame rates in this version than I had in 2k2 and frame rates aren't everything.  The GPS is way better and so is the ATC, I was offered a "circle to land approach" the other day, it blew my mind LOL.  In addition the graphics of 2k4 look better at 1/2 to 2/3 settings than 2k2 looks at full settings.

In all things it is a balance.  You will not get video smooth graphics and screen shot competition quality at the same time, there will be a trade at some point.

Am I making sense?  It's 3AM..... :-/

Will

"Oh-Dark-Hundred....."      Thanks Will.....   Well from the sound of it, I'll tell the kids to keep their money, buy the Old Man  a case of good brew for his up-coming birthday....and call it a day...

This thing does fine on Jane's F/A-18... and as much as I have worked on that thing, I'll  never 'master' it !

I appreciate the help you guys over here on   Simviation  have given me....  saved some money...

And...hey...watch it when they call out "Fire  At  Will "

'Bye
