frame rates?

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

frame rates?

Postby Jared » Wed Nov 26, 2003 10:26 pm

Hey! Just curious as to what kind of frame rates everyone else is running in CFS 3...:-)

Currently with everything maxed out I'm getting 40-45FPS, and when there is lots of traffic in the general viewing area it can dip down into the upper 20's...:-)

I'm getting 19-25, dipping to 5 when it gets a little busy.  Some 'orrible stutter at times tho'.  This is with min settings by the way.

Geforce 2 MX400 64MB says it all.  The rest of the system is OK, PIV 1.7Ghz, 60MB HD, 512MB RAM, XP Home etc.  Just needs a better card and I should see an improvement.  At least with XP the game is playable, under ME I had all the bells and whistles off and I was lucky to see 12FPS.  The stutter was that bad I had to see a speech therapist.

What are your system specifications?  With everything maxed out I get about 15-25FPS.

and I guess that's about the general idea..

Ahh hah, well I geuss it is time for me to upgrade, yep I can see that Jared's Athalon XP3000+ & 1GB 400mhz memory is getting that high framerate.
Im running the Athalon 1800+, 512mb DDR PC2100, on a Geforce4 Ti4200 8X AGP, and get about 15- 20 FPS depending on the amount of things going on & cloud/weather setting.
Tho I think I'll stay with my Geforce4 Ti4200 as the perfomance of the newer FX cards isnt enough greater to justify it, even the store clerks at Fry's have said so.
But the processor speed of 3GB on that athalon of yours Jared & your 1gb of memory is prbably getting the good FPS's over my 1800+
So yep methinks it's time for a new processor and to get my memory up to 1gig

Thanks for the info folks ;)

I'm averaging around 30 in most combat situations, sometimes 40-50 or more if its just free flight with a couple of wingmen and no clouds. Much less (20-25) if theres lots of heavy stuff around. Image settings are 5,2,2,5,1. Thats at 1024x768x16 res. Screen res makes a big difference, experiment to find your best option. Colour depth at 16 will add a couple more frames a second and doesn't make a lot of difference to the visuals. Having said that, I still get the jerks now and again. Its worse closer to ground level if there are lots of buildings and trees around, especially when bombs go off. Specs are;

AMD athlon XP2700+ T-bred (2.17 gig) processor
Radeon 9200 graphics card
1 gig DDR Ram
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds.

I get 40-60  with less of a system.... ( mid 30's when really busy )
I have all set to 3 except clouds @1, and aircraft @5
1024x768x16 rez.
the biggest part is to turn off the dual render  in the config , and set it to High rez  ( right below that )
my system is ...
AMD1700+ XP ( 1.47)
768 pc2100
G4 Ti4200 64m
NF2S-ALH mb
Win XP pro
30g WD hd  ata100 - 7200rpm
creative 5.1 live
APC ups
10m cable connection thru RR

have you checked out my tweaks file in the CFS3 Misc. page here ???  it helped alot of others I know.
otherwise , email me , and I will try to help you set up.

AMD Atlon 2200
1.80 GHz
512 MB of RAM
GeForece 4 MX440
XP Home

i can get about 40 fps with no other A/C and 0 clouds, although I have the settings quite low.  When there is bad wheather, clouds, and other planes i get about 20. usually 25-35 in combat in good weather.

Pentium 4 - 2 GIG
1 Gig DDR Ram
GEFORCE Ti 4200  128 MB (Omega drivers)
Creative  SB Live
Windows XP
Direct X 9.0b

Thanks to Shep's tweaks I can get up to 70 fps in the clear blue, down to 20 in wild combat
Settings all 4 except clouds 1 and a/c 5
Still get some stutter, as we all do, but quite happy.
Before I got another stick of 512 MB RAM I often ran out of RAM mid game.  Try extra RAM and RAAF Shep's tweaks. I recommend the (performance) Omega drivers KX1.4523a

Interesting morning so far.  I've had a little peace and quiet and I've played with my settings, downloaded latest drivers from the Nvidia site and all that.

With all settings on 5 and the various tweaks performed I am now getting 29-35FPS up high dipping to 10-12 when I'm down low and shooting.

Hee hee hee.

Cheers all providers of tweaks.
