A-20's Replacement

In 1944 the A-26B, the replacement for the A-20, was put into the field in the Pacific and the European theatres with the 5th and 9th air forces.  [smiley=happy.gif]

She was not well-received by the 5th, and played an extremely small part in combat action there, serving in a mix of A-20s with the Grim Reapers.  She suffered from poor visibility from the cockpit....claimed the Reapers.  [smiley=sad.gif]

However, the 9th couldn't get enough of the 26s, and complained about the lack of C model (Glass Nose) availability.  The C was not to be had and many, many 26B solid nose planes accounted for over 18,000 sorties in the European theatre.  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Sooooooooooo, we're thinking that the fine little Fox Four B-26B (Korean War designation for the A-26) of Korean War fame might make a good candidate for conversion to WWII.  [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Tom ... it's like popcorn, ain't it?  Sure ... you start out eating a single piece at a time ... and before you're done ... it's by the fistful! (LOL ... personal experience at play).
