is there any way to play without the cd

i read on some thread someone downloading a program that lets you play the game without the cd, i was going to ask them but i forgot where the thread was and now i cant find it....but anyway is there any program that lets you play the game without having the cd in the machine because carrying with my laptop everywhere is a hassle and i lose it at times and cant play for days....anyone know?
