Stability of stock F4F Wildcat

Was the Wildcat really so easy to throw into a spin? Quite a nasty little plane to fly - the stock F4F. I've well over 100 downloaded aircraft in CFS2, few so unpleasant in combat as the Wildcat. Is this right? While the Polikarpov I-16, for example, had a real-life reputation for poor lateral stability, I thought the Wildcat should fly more stable than it does in CFS2?

I can only relate what was told me via WW2 pilots (those in that little corner of my world when I was very young are gone now). What was said was that the Wildcat was fairly reliable and easy enough to fly -- but it was no aerobatics pro and couldn't do the controlled "turn and roll" with the best of them. The only true complaint I remember was from one pilot complaining about difficulty in manually operating the landing gear; I'm unsure if that was only a one-time or one-plane event (he's no longer around to elaborate).

The Wildcat was very dangerous little plane. You never took it lightly and think its a easy kill when you fly against it.

You have to learn to use you rudder and flaps and throttle properly. No it was not a supper easy plane to fly like the Zero and Oscar where. But once you get the hang of it its not that bad of a plane.

Always use team work when you are in a dog fight and if you meet a Zero by your self. Run boy run. Take one shoot at the Zero and if you miss. You only have one option. Run

What's happened to avhistory.org? Seems the boys have abandoned CFS2 and are focused entirely on CFS3... I have many 1% planes - they are great - I'd love to try their F4F...

BTW the stock CFS2 Wildcat bears no relation to a Wildcat other then its visual.

Also, it depends on what flight model reliasm you're using... the Stock MS aircraft... well, they SUCK on hard. I tried flyin' the Hog last night on hard and as soon as I started to turn "stall"... the %1 aircraft are a helluva lot better, but the AI have a hard time using their complicated AIR files.

Reason the F4 does not turn is the flight model is totally porked.



The jagged part of the MS stock F4 black curve is the Corsair stalling recovering & stalling again.

Got it guys! Thanks Bear & Co. - this is a vast improvement over the stock Wildcat. Still, it's no Spitfire, but this thing is in control, takes off the slower carriers even fully laden, and I've now racked up more air-to-ari kills in this baby than in the horrid old stock Wildcat.
