Effectiveness of bombs and rockets

Postby Jehovah_of_Jive » Tue Dec 13, 2005 11:04 am

Are the blast effects realistic? The other day I flew a mission I'd made in Mission Builder; I dropped a 500 lb bomb from a RAF Kittyhawk smack dab between a pair of closely-parked Ju-52s... bomb exploded nicely, no damage to either?

Last night I was experimenting with rockets in air-to-air mode; flew an F4U-5 Corsair against Tim 'Piglet' Conrad's excellent An-2. From 100 yds or less I unleashed a salvo of 5" rockets at the big biplane, explosions happened, and yet the Antonov kept on flying. (Then I downed it with a few 20mm cannon shells).

So what's happening? Why is it I can destroy buildings with machine gun fire, while aircraft as targets seem to be more resistant to bombing?

Can I tweak the bombs and rockets to be more effective?

If so, how?

Here's what happens... Corsair vs. Antonov An-2.

Note the pair of 5" rockets fired. One has hit the upper port wing of the biplane. The other would go on to miss.

Despite this, the Antonov just flew on...

I did actually earlier manage to down an Antonov this way (rocket struck fuselage).

Also note the Corsair is flying with flaps and gear down, Iwo Jima style, to maintain speed with the biplane. AIS is 119 kts.

J_o_J,

The AF=Midway Bomb Blast Pak Plus near the bottom of THIS page fixes the damage 'caused by bullets, bombs, rockets etc... and makes them more realistic.
