Thanks for the idea. I am currently running Windows ME. The game was running successfully on that before the FS2004 installation. Are you suggesting that there is a conflict between CFS2 and FS2004 when running on the same platform?

Thanks again for the advice, but unfortunately it did not prove helpful.

There was no "compatability" selection when I right clicked on the icon, so there was no opportunity to select Windows 98.

I did get the bright idea of installing the game on an external hard drive that I have for backup purposes. Interestingly, the game appeared to run ok, but there were a few quirks. The more times I ran it, however, there was additional deterioration, mostly around use of the joystick. Flight could not be controlled for instance, and button assignments would not take place as directed. The game was installed and uninstalled more time than I can remember (maybe about five hours of working on it) when screen freezes became frequent and finally it would not open from the desktop.

I will be uninstalling it again, fully frustrated. All this time, FS2004 runs normally using the same joystick.

Cessna156 I'm sure there is a compability option once you click on the Icon. Do it again and you should see it on the top once the icon opens up.

Remember once you right click the Icon you scroll down to where it says properties. Click on it and you should see it. Follow the rest of my previous instructions and you should bee able to the format the program to window 98.

In my opinion Window 98 is superior to Me Windows.

If that does not work . I recommend for to you disk clean your PC and  deframented it as well. You may do a full virus scan afterward.

Unstall your CFS2 program. Go back to the where the CFS2 folder is after you have unstall it . Clean it up by deleting any folders that may have stayed behind.

Reinstall CFS2. See if that did the trick. If not check your CFS2 setting . Maybe your setting are to high for you vedio card. Reduce to your settings untill you get CFS2  running to your likeing.

Another is to uninstall CFS2. Uninstall FS9 and install it in another folder. Then reinstall CFS2. Just maybe having them in the same Microsoft game folder for some reason is creating a conflict.

Last but not least. Go to start/All Program/Accessries/Systems tools/System restore and pick a date when CFS2 was working properly. This configurate you PC to to a previousdate when your PC was working better.

Try them  one by one and see if this information has help you in any way.

I hope I have been helpfull.

James,

I believe in an earlier post he mentioned he's not running windows XP... (correct me if I'm wrong) ... I'm not sure if the older versions of windows (i.e. me, 98, 95) have the compatibility option.

I thought all this was fixed & just spotted Cessna156's problem. I'm still on WinMe so maybe I can suggest something. I have FS98, CFS1, CFS2, FS2002 & FS2004 all running happily alongside each other with no conflicts. I found a conflict between CFS3 & CFS2 when I originally installed CFS3 but fixed this with the No-CD patch. Although tehnically illegal this was the only way I could find of doing it. I had the same problem with FS2004 conflicting with FS2002 when I first installed that but this time I knew how to fix it. In both cases the new sim would not run at all & clicking the shortcut locked up my PC. The conflict seemed to be with reading the CD in the drive to start it rather than the sim itself. If CFS2 actually starts & runs I don't think this is the same problem as I had. There should be no conflict between any of the M$ sims as they're all completely separate programs.

I would have suggested a complete uninstall/install of CFS2 but I note that you've aready tried that several times. You could try uninstalling FS2004 but you might not wish to do that & it could result in even more problems. It's not for me to say but if you can find the No-CD patches for both sims it wouldn't hurt to try them. If questioned I shall deny suggesting this. :-X

Indeed. There would be no point as they're all basically the same program. I believe there's a known issue with System Restore in WinMe. It never worked for me so there's no point in trying that either.

Corsair Freak - A PM??

Personal (or Private) Message. I can't remember which. Look right at the top of the forum & you should see something like this: Hey, Cessna156, you have 1 messages.

Click on it to read the message. You can reply in the same way as here on the forum but only the person you send it to can read it.
