One word of warning from a mission point of view:
Detailed aircraft are great; but too many in the air can turn air combat into a seriously laggy mess. It's best if a new craft's poly count is similar to that of the stock planes.
Cheers!

In a campaign, you could have 1 or 2 "premium" a/c,
usually for the player, and have the rest of the a/c as less
detailed-framerate friendly ones. This could work as a
compromise between the 2 approaches so far.
If all could agree on what airbase/scenery set to use,
mission builders (such as myself) could begin making
missions now. Or at least roughing them out. Later, when
the specially built a/c are available, it would be an easy job to replace the old a/c en masse with
a text editor.
There's some nice-looking airbase sets available out there
for ww1 now. Or is the plan to build all new ones?
