Bi-Plane Troubles

Postby Corsair Freak » Thu May 26, 2005 9:13 pm

Hey SimV,

I downloaded Thicko's Ki-10 http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.p...kel&FileID=3595

and Doug Westfall's P6-E Hawk at http://www.avsim.com/ (CFS1 - CFS2 Aircraft Search for P6-E)

and I can't get either of 'em to work!  they won't show up in the aircraft list, but they show up in mission builder
I've checked the aircraft.cfg files, everything looks fine, I've checked the panel, and sound .cfg files, and they're fine also... I can't figure out the problem... I know the P6 will work, as I have flown it before, before my computer decided it wanted to stop working. I can't figure out the problem, any ideas? ???

Thanks,
Brandon

Your SoH link doesn't work for me & I can't find the Ki-10 posted anywhere at SoH. If both aircraft are listed in the MB they must be installed correctly (or these could be different versions of the aircraft). Make sure you're looking in the correct place on the Free Flight/QC aircraft selection menu. If they're definitely not listed they could be configured as unflyable AI drones. Open the AIR files with AirEd. If the Aircraft Type is 2 change it to 0 & save changes.

Hey Hagar,

heres the link to the Ki-10, http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?l ... ileID=3595

I'll have a look in the AIR files, and make sure they're player flyable, I'm not sure what the problem is... if I find the time, I'll try the planes in my fresh "Korean War" install, with all stock effects, Weapons etc... etc... and see what happens.

Make sure you're looking in the correct place on the Free Flight/QC aircraft selection menu.
usually when I install a new A/C I'll have a look in it's Aircraft.CFG file and see what it's called, so I know where to look. and I've searched the menu high and low for 'em. These planes have got me stumped.  ???

Thanks,
Brandon

OK. I tried the Ki-10 & it works fine for me. Make sure you installed the files correctly & didn't rename or modify any default aircraft as 3rd party aircraft might be aliased to use their panel or sound. The Ki-10 comes complete with a panel using default gauges & the sound is aliased to the defult P38F_LIGHTNING. There's no weapons package, gauges or effects files to worry about. From a quick peek at Panel.cfg one gauge is missing but that's all I can find.

The only thing that springs to mind is that you deleted or modified the default aircraft the sound is aliased to. In the case of the Ki-10 this is the P38F_LIGHTNING. If the P6-E is the same one I found it's aliased to the A6M2_Zero.

I'll go into my backup folder, and put the default Zero, and P-38 in there, and see if it helps. About the only things I changed on those A/C (P38 & Zero) are:

Zero:
Airfile
IS4G Shining model
(modified stock) DP to use MD bombs

P38:
GP's P38 Propwash
(Modified Stock) DP to use DB bombs

That shouldn't affect anything unless you changed the folder name or removed the sound files. You could try deleting Sound.cfg from the Ki-10 & P6 to see if this is the problem. Leave the Sound folders where they are. They should then display but obviously without sound.

I'll give it a go.

I got it!!! w00t!!! I deleted the sound.cfg files and nothin... so I decided to rename the P6-E folder to P6E, and rename all the cfg files and DP and AIR, and it worked! and I did the same to the Ki-10, renamed it from Ki-10 to Ki_10 and all the files and voila!  :)

Heres the P6...

I'm glad you seem to have fixed it but I did nothing. The aircraft worked perfectly well for me right from the start. You also said they work for you in a separate install of CFS2. I can't think of a single reason why renaming those folders & associated files would make any difference at all. This shouldn't be necessary as the aircraft were configured correctly to start with. I've had very few problems with literally hundreds of 3rd party aircraft I've tried in CFS1 & 2 over the last 6 years but I have no idea what you chaps get up to. ???
Removing or modifying default aircraft is not a good idea. If you wish to modify them do it with a copy configured as a separate aircraft.
