crappy control online

Postby town » Tue Jan 11, 2005 3:16 pm

does anyone know why I lose control of my aircraft when playing online although when play offline my control is much better - even at 100% realism?

What do you mean by "crappy control"? Sluggish stick response? Jerky movement, stalls and balckouts?

There should be no difference between offline and online stick response. If it works fine offline, then it should work just fine online.

What I mean specifically is firing my guns at 150knots and stalling and going into an unrecoverable flat spin, I mean I don't think I'm top gun or anything like that but I also know that I am not pulling the aircraft out of its normal flight envelope.

Sounds to me that your controls are fine. What I think is the problem is that in the Zone, you are going into "Hard Air"/100% games. Unless you are flying the Zero, 150 knots is way too slow for any manuevering. If you are in a Hellcat or Corsair, at 150 knots you had better be using some flaps if you are going to be turning much.

Many newcomers to the Zone have asked the same question. They don't realize that the room is set at 100% realism, therefore it is much easier to stall out when in a dogfight.

Make sure you know what type room you are getting into. If it is a 100%/Hard Air room, then you had better learn to be easy on the stick, expecially when in an American acft. There is a little bit of a learning curve here, but trust me, the 100% rooms are where the most fun is.

Okay, thanks for that Fireman, I will keep trying and see if I can get a handle on it.

No problem. I remember seeing you there the last couple weekends. I will probably be flying Saturday, most likely my only available day. You should have been there when you had to wait for an opening just to get into Midway. Those were the days. Hopefully CFS2 will make a return. It is still a great game with potential.

Fireman, I tried using a little bit of flap in my dogfights and while I cannot claim to be Douglas Bader, there was a marked improvement so again many thanks for that piece of advice.

P.S. Is your callsign the same as your Simviation nome de plume?

Glad the info helped you out. What acft. are you flying on the Zone?

Yes, the name is the same. See you there sometime.

What planes I fly. I'll give any of the stock aircraft a go and quite often fly the "George" and I have downloaded a spitfire which I thought would be in the spirit of things but other players got upset that it wasn't stock - so long as it's pre 1945 and piston engined I don't mind.

It will be an honour to fly with you.

Yes, you have to be careful what acft. you bring into a room. It all depends on what the game info states. If it says STOCK, then it had better be just that. A Zero (M2 or M5), a George, a Hellcat, Corsair or P-38. Make sure that none of the files have been modified on those acft. either. If they have been, then they are no longer Stock.

There are those that have modified air files, acft. cfgs and or DP files. So be careful.

Now there are rooms that get opened up that allow different acft. Those rooms will state such. Then your Spitfire would be allowed.

Each acft. has it's strengths and weaknesses, even in this game. Learning what they are can vastly improve your piloting skills in a dogfight. Practicing some basic manuevers can be very beneficial too.

Hope to see you there sometime. My time is limited anymore so I am not there as much as I use to be. But do pop in now and then.
