Best Scenery?

Postby paulb » Thu Mar 04, 2004 10:04 am

Hi

I recently put CFS2 back onto my (new)pc and have added some of the 'Just Flight' products. I normally stick to FS2004, but wanted a bit of action for a break and remembered CFS2 as about the best combat sim out there. ;)

However, I do find the scenery in CFS2 a bit of a let down when compared with FS2004.  :-[

Suggestions please..........what are the very best scenery add-ons for CFS2?

Cheers Paul

Try Pactex...

There is also a set of Pactex II textures at Flightsim.com

Or The Maskrider Scenery Over AT Netwings.

You Gotta Remember That The CFS2 "Stock" Scenery Is 4 Years Old ;)

There are three CFS2 addons that in my opinion are a must.

The first two are already mentioned by Stratobat and Brandon.

The Pac Tex textures make the South Pacific look sooooooo much better than the stock CFS2 textures. Land and water are visually enhanced 100 fold.

Get all the Mask Rider scenery. These are the best airfield scenery out there, believe me, I have installed tons of scenery and by far, Mask Rider is the best.

If you are confused on how to install the Mask Rider scenery, many are, I have a scenery installation tutorial on my site using the Mask Rider scenery as an example. Pictures and text to for easy follow along instructions for the "newbie" to CFS2 and scenery installation. Not that you are one.  ;)  Here is the link, get Fireman's tute.
http://www.brennt.com/hoppers/scenery.html

The third I recommend is going to FSW Active Sky http://fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html . Go into the FS2000 section and especially get all the cloud textures. Also get the FS Sky World Utility in the Utility section. Don't worry about "Hits" on frame rates. These cloud textures are smaller than the stock CFS2 cloud textures. Added bonus.

With these three enhancements just fire CFS2 up, load up a little weather or clouds and you will be amazed at the difference between the stock CFS2 you had and your "Enhanced" CFS2.

Good luck, have fun.

I don't have FS2k4 but I do have FS2k2.

All the mesh and textures from FS2k2 can be coppied or referenced and used in CFS2. It's probably best to avoid the airports but you don't realy want a modern airport in WW2 anyway.

On the same line. You can download any mesh that is specifically for any of the FS series and add it to CFS2.

Now you won't have a flat world!

I've never tried photo real terrain textures in CFS2 as I don't think my pc is man enough for the job. Not sure if anyone else has tried this?

Hope this helps

Now I Have A Question For The People Who Have Pactex:

Does It Slow Your Computer Down?

And I Heard There Is A Perfect Remedy For Mixing Pactex And Maskrider Scenery So Its Like Perfect. Do U Know What It Is? ;D

I haven't seen a drop in fps while using Pactex ???

If your going to install Pactex with Maskrider scenery, you need to retain vriversu.bmp and vroadssu.bmp from the original textures.

Hey Brandon,

I'm not 100% sure, but get rid of everything it tells you to in the Pactex readme, except those two bitmaps.
