General discussion for CFS - the original European Air War Combat Flight Simulator

Moving Posts

Postby Mathias » Thu Jan 13, 2005 7:37 am

Gotta get this off as it's bothering me for a while.
Seems the policies to move posts from one forum to another is a bit, let's say strictly handled, in particular in the CFS3 forum.
Why for instance is a post in the CFS3 forum moved to the scenery forum where a user asks where to find a specific file?
Makes no sense to me, it was an ontopic request IMO.

Other than that cheers and keep up the good work!  ;)

Its the way the forums are setup. If something is posted in the wrong forum the mods move it. Say someone wants an aircraft for CFS3 then it shouldn't be in the CFS3 forum, but the Aircraft Wanted forum. Its a purely administrative thing, we like it all nice and tidy :)

I'd like to add my comments Ozzy & all other mods. I know you have a lot to do but think some of these posts are moved in a hurry without too much thought. Take your request for a CFS3 aircraft as an example. If it's moved to the Aircraft Wanted forum, nobody knows it's for CFS3 unless it's specifically mentioned in the topic. This has caused confusion & frustrastion in the past. The point is that nobody replying to the topic in its new location realises it's been moved. In this case it's better left where it is. IMHO

On a recent occasion a topic was moved twice in a short time by 2 different mods, first from the FS2004 forum to Payware & then to Other Sites. Although it was posted on a payware site the file being discussed was freeware. I'd replied to this topic in the FS2004 forum & had problems finding it when I wanted to check on it. I thought it would actually have been more appropriate in the Scenery Design forum but I daren't suggest moving it again. ::)

Just my two penn'orth. ;)

PS. I'm not complaining. I wouldn't want the job myself. I think you chaps cope well with a difficult task. ;)

My 1 pence worth is that everyone intereted in CFS looks in that forum - I never look in the scenery forum and I believe lots of ppl don't either. Posting where he did ensures ppl see it.
But the rules are the rules. ::)

I think you're right Ben & this is the point Mathias was making. CFS is far more specific than FS & visitors to the CFS forums will be more likely to have the answers.

Homo-moderatus - looks tired and harrassed (and frequently poorly shaven).
Largely nocturnal.
Converts coffee into quick one liners, normally located at dusk in front of a PC clutching a beer.
Often heard chanting the mantra "Bridge good, altitude bad" ;D

Common Lesser Spotted Forum User - looks tired and harrassed (and frequently poorly shaven). Largely nocturnal.
Too tired to come up with one-liners & driven to drink.
Permanently confused & frustrated by illogical behaviour of Homo-moderatus. ??? :P :D

LOL, take it easy guys, just wanted to add my two cent to further improve this all-time-greatest place of the www :D
Just maybe as a suggestion, unless you guys see a post in the CFS3 forums labeled as "scenery creation for FS98 using airport 1.2" just keep it there :D
Again ozzy, you're doing a much apprechiated and often underrated job.
Cheers for that.

I think the overall guide is that we should take the 'essence' of a subject rather than it's direct content ... not that that makes any sense ;)

In other words - if an aircraft is requested for CFS3 it should really stay there .... if someone is talking about a card directly in relation to FS2004 - it should stay there .....

We all make mistakesa - me included - but there is a little too much moving these days - though also a lot of posting in wrong forums ......  ::)

Then again, there have been times when a post gets moved - "just because" ...
